An employee working with a private insurance firm, who was allegedly abducted from Subhash chowk around 9.30 pm on Monday, was rescued at a police barricade at Pali in Rajasthan on Tuesday.

The two gun wielding criminals, who had abducted 30-year-old Samarth Kohli, resident of Tilak Nagar in Delhi, managed to flee from the spot after noticing the police barricade at Raipur in Pali district.

Pali police were informed about the abductors by the Ajmer police who were tracking the movement of the culprits on information received from the Gurgaon police.

A team of Gurgaon police reached Pali in the afternoon to question Kohli about the incident.

The Gurgaon police managed to track Kohli from the trail of SMS messages that they were receiving after repeated ATM transactions were made by Kohli, under pressure from culprits.

“The accused took him to Rewari, Jaipur, Ajmer and they were finally pinned down at Raipur in Pali district of Rajasthan based on the ATM trail. They managed to get Rs 2 lakh withdrawn from the accused,” said sub-inspector Sandeep Ahlawat from the Sadar police station.

The victim and the police teams are still at the Raipur police station.

“Police barricades were raised after receiving information from Ajmer range office. The accused left the vehicle and fled from the spot leaving the abductee and the vehicle a few metres away from the barricade,” said Deepak Bhargav, Superintendent of police, Pali.

The abductors dumped the car and escaped around 1pm. When police recovered Kohli, he was shaken but did not suffer from any major injury, the police said. “He was roughed up a bit as the accused wanted him to withdraw money, but they did not harm him,” said Ahlawat.

The victim works as a mid-level executive in AIG Insurance, which has an office close to Subhash chowk in Gurgaon.

Ajmer police helped in tracking the abductor’s vehicle and inputs from them helped in apprehending the accused.

Police said that both the accused have criminal records and have been identified. One of them is from Haryana and another is from neighbouring Alwar. The police said that they were informed about the abduction by Kohli’s family members on Tuesday morning at 5.30 am.

Kohli’s brother Dhruv Kohli complained to the police on Tuesday morning that Samarth left his office in his silver Honda City car near Subhash Chowk around 9.30 pm. His phone was switched off after 10.30 pm and repeated transactions of Rs 10,000 were made thrice from different ATMs in Sector 14.

Thereafter, Rs 2,360 was withdrawn from a petrol pump nearby. Thereafter money was withdrawn from ATMs in Jaipur, the victim’s brother told police in his complaint.

“Teams of Sadar police station and crime branch immediately left for Ajmer as most of the ATMs used were from that area. We managed to get the victim freed. The accused will be nabbed soon,” said Sumit Kuhar, DCP, crime.
