As per the assessment of the district election officials, there are 263 hypersensitive polling stations and 229 sensitive polling stations in the Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat.

While Sohna has the highest number of hypersensitive polling stations (114) and Gurugram has the least such stations (18), officials said, adding that Gurugram has 48 sensitive and hypersensitive booths, Sohna 192, Pataudi 89 and Badshahpur has 163 such booths.

Gurugram deputy commissioner Amit Khatri said additional forces will be deployed in such polling stations to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful polling.

A polling station is deemed normal, sensitive or hypersensitive after being ranked by the level of its vulnerability to violence based on criteria such as violent incidents in the past, if 75% or more votes went to single candidate, among other factors.

To take stock of poll preparation at these sensitive locations, general election observer, Gurgaon, Manmeet Kaur Nanda visited hyper-sensitive booths in Bhondsi’s Rithauj, Bahalpa and Damdama villages. She went to these polling stations with election officials and issued directions to ensure that polling is conducted peacefully on May 12.

She also told officials to ensure that basic amenities, including drinking water, should also be made available at all booths.
