Mehmood Khan, the candidate for JJP-AAP alliance for the Gurgaon parliamentary seat, on Sunday reached out to residents of different condominiums in the city as part of his election campaign. Khan interacted with around 40 people, most of whom were senior citizens, at The Retreat in South City 1 in the morning.
Khan said he wanted to transform the city into a truly global destination. “A global city is one where there is affordable housing for all. It is a city that has an efficient public transport system. I want to turn Gurugram into a city where women feel safe enough to walk alone at night,” he told the audience.
Khan, 64, worked in the corporate world for nearly four decades, after which he moved back to Mewat to work at the grassroots level. Calling his campaign a fight of “dharam(righteousness)” against “adharam(corruption)”, he said that the country was moving towards the wrong direction. “I call the present state of affairs in the country as ‘Adharam’. My aim is to fight the injustices with ‘Dharam,’” he said.
During the course of the meeting, Khan also took up questions from the residents, several of whom appreciated his track record. Some, however, felt that he was the right man in wrong politics. Madhav Lokur, 71, a resident, said, “It will be an uphill task for him to go ahead with the plan in the current state of politics,” said Lokur.
Khan, however, did not attack any leader from opposition parties or the ruling party. He said that his plan was to connect with people deeply.
