An executive with a private firm in Gurugram was booked on Friday night for allegedly raping a 33-year-old woman for over a year after promising to marry her, the police said on Saturday. The police are yet to arrest the suspect.
The suspect and the woman got in touch with each other in August 2017 through a matrimonial website, according to the police. The police said the two exchanged cellphone numbers and spoke to each other several times. According to the complainant, the man befriended her and invited her to his house in Sushant Lok 1 in February 2018.
“When the woman reached the suspect’s house, she saw he was alone in the apartment. When she enquired about his family, he allegedly said they had gone out to meet some relatives,” Shamsher Singh, assistant commissioner of police (crime), said.
The woman told the police that he promised to marry her after they met for the first time and often called her late at night and discussed wedding plans, the police said.
The woman, in her complaint, said the suspect maintained physical relations with her on the pretext of marrying her for over a year. Later, when she asked him to marry her, he refused and his behaviour changed and he started ignoring her. The complainant filed a complaint against him on Friday evening at the Sushant Lok police station.
