A 30-year-old man ended his life by jumping off a high-rise in DLF City Phase 4 on Monday evening, the police said.
The deceased, Rakesh Pilania, was a native of Vikas Nagar in Bhiwani district of Haryana. He was working at a private bank in Gurgaon as a quantitative analyst and lived in a rented apartment in Ridgewood Estate, DLF City Phase 4 with his wife.
A security guard first reported the incident and Rakesh was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead, the police said.
According to the police, Rakesh’s father, in his complaint, said, “My son had called on October 5 and asked his mother to come to Gurgaon. He also told her that his in-laws were threatening him saying they would get him booked in a dowry case. They wanted my daughter-in-law to work whereas my son wanted her to remain at home.”
The police said Rakesh was mentally disturbed and had a strained relation with his wife, who was insisting on working.
Sector 29 police have booked his wife and in-laws on charges of abetment to suicide after they recorded the statement of his father. No arrest has been made so far.
Rakesh’s wife worked in a private company and the couple got married only last year.
Rakesh’s father claimed that his son had written an email to the Gurgaon police commissioner before he ended his life. However, the police did not confirm this.
The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination on Tuesday.
“We have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Rakesh’s wife and family members. We have also recorded statements of Rakesh’s parents, his wife and in-laws. Based on this, action will be taken. Investigation is on,” said deputy commissioner of police (east) Deepak Saharan.
