Man kidnapped at gunpoint jumps out of car, foils robbery bid at Iffco Chowk

The accused snatched his mobile phone, company ID card and official pen drive, the police said.

Two men in a cab allegedly abducted a staffer of a private firm from Iffco Chowk late Tuesday on the pretext of offering him a lift, held him at gunpoint and asked him to make a ransom call to his home. However, the man jumped out of the moving car and informed the police about the incident.

The accused snatched his mobile phone, company ID card and official pen drive, the police said.

The victim, Rajneesh Kumar, of Kashichak in Nawada, Bihar, submitted a complaint at the Sector 17/18 police station, said the incident took place around 12:45am on Wednesday. He said two people in a Swift Dzire car offered him a lift to his residence in Mahipalpur.

He said the man sitting in the co-driver’s seat pulled out a gun and asked him to make call his residence, directing them to keep Rs50,000 ready.

He told the police that the accused threatened to shoot him. He said he panicked and jumped out of the moving car and later informed the police.

A case under sections 365 (kidnapping) and 379A (theft) of the IPC and Section 25/54/59 of the Arms Act was registered at Sector 17/18 police station.

On May 17, a 25-year-old man was allegedly abducted and shot in the leg by three men posing as cab drivers after he refused to part with his money.

In April, a crime branch team of the Gurugram police, specially assigned to nab cab gangs involved in robbing commuters after offering them lift at key intersections on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, had nabbed four criminals involved in 11 such incidents in the city.

The gang of four used to target commuters at Iffco Chowk, Shankar Chowk and busy junctions of Delhi and Faridabad.
