The Haryana government has grand plans to improve Gurgaon’s healthcare, hospitality, IT and entertainment sectors to make the city the “lifestyle destination” of the country, state commerce and industry minister Capt Abhimanyu said on Monday.
“Gurgaon can be developed as the lifestyle destination of India. This is what all stakeholders, including industry leaders and the public, should yearn for. We, as a government, are working towards it,” Capt Abhimanyu said at a conference — ‘Ease of Doing Business in Gurgaon’ — organised by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) and the Gurgaon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) in the city.
The minister also said the potential of Gurgaon’s service sector was yet to be tapped to its capacity.
Additionally, the city can be developed as a hub for medical tourism on the lines of Singapore, Thailand and Philippines. “Though we have big healthcare facilities like Medanta-The Medicity, we need to do more,” he said.
“On the IT front too, Gurgaon has done well but we need to take it to the next level. Until about a year ago, the IT preparedness of the Haryana government was abysmally low — less than 74% of UIDAI registration, which has shot up to 95% in past 13 months,” Capt Abhimanyu said.
With a view to push the ease of doing business in the state, the government is looking to give approvals, clearances and sanctions through online mode, he said. “We want to create an environment where we do not have to deal with anything offline. We want to avoid human interaction as much as possible so that everything works smoothly,” the minister said.
The government is also planning to create a database of residents’ details comprising location and demography.
“We are working on creating a state resident database, which would be a demographic and geographic database. Every inch of space has an opportunity for entrepreneurship and every individual in his own capacity has tremendous potential to be an entrepreneur. We have to make Haryana the land of entrepreneurs,” he said.
