If you are going to park your vehicle at Iffco Chowk Metro parking lot, then you need to think twice. If your vehicle is lost, then the parking contractor will not come to your rescue at all, as reads the parking slip — “no one will be responsible in case of any damage or theft of your vehicle at the parking premise."
The parking lot contractor has clearly refused to take any responsibility of the vehicle's security in the parking, which is used by scores for parking their vehicles at this Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) authorised parking lot. “I was shocked to read the parking slip given to me by a parking attendant after I parked my bike at the Iffco Chowk Metro station parking," said Pawan Sharma, a daily commuter.
"According to the slip, the operator is trying to escape from his responsibility for any form of damage or losing the parked vehicle. How can the contractor do this just by writing that he will not be held responsible if any harm is done to the vehicle. We also pay for the parking space," added Sharma.
The city police said the parking authority cannot escape from their responsibility by writing anything on the parking receipt. “If the vehicle is parked in authorised parking, then it is the responsibility of the parking contractor to keep the vehicle safe and secure till it is handed over to the owner. If the vehicle is damaged or stolen from the parking premise, the contractor will be booked for criminal negligence as per the law,” said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP, East Gurgaon Police.
“We will look into the matter. If we find something objectionable, then certainly step will be taken against the erring contractor. We are following the standard parking norms, which are set by the government. The parking at Iffco Chowk has been given to a contractor as per the rule of law and he has to comply with that under any circumstances,” said a DMRC official.
