Pleasant weather ensures robust turnout on Day 1 of Gurgaon flower show
Huda said nearly 4,000 to 5,000 people turned up at the Leisure Valley for the opening day of the Gurgaon flower show
The opening day of the flower show organised by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) saw a good turnout. A pleasant Saturday afternoon presented the perfect opportunity for visitors to fetch up in numbers and enjoy a dazzling assortment of flowers. The Huda said nearly 4,000 to 5,000 people showed up to make it a grand opening day.
With the temperature at tolerable levels and a pleasant wind about, the weather was perfect for visitors to get around the venue and see a colourful array of flowers in attractive pots. The flowers were arranged in shapes as to resemble animals and hanging parks and drew the attention of visitors. The Huda left no stone unturned to make the event a success.
Among the scores who were at the Leisure Valley, Sector 29, on the opening day of the flower show, many were spotted buying plants, flower pots and manure.
The Huda said that the entries of participants at the flower show, too, was more as compared to last year and it helped draw more visitors to the event this year.

Narbir Singh, Badshahpur MLA and a minister in the Haryana government, inaugurated the event on Saturday morning. Yashpal Yadav, administrator, Huda and VK Nirala, executive engineer, horticulture, Huda were also present on the occasion.
“The purpose of the flower show, which has been a calendar event over the last 30 years, is create more public awareness about greenery and encourage them to take up gardening. We get plenty of visitors, who take delight in the flowers on view and gather information of knowledge about plants,” Singh said.
Yadav, the Huda administrator, said, “We are happy to have drawn more than 100 entries for the event this year. While we had 62 entries last year, the number has grown to 92 this time. It is very encouraging that a lot more people are taking an interest in the event and are sending rare varieties of flowers in their collection to be displayed at the show.”
A non-profit organisation, the Huda uses the event to promote people associated with the horticulture business every year.
Bobby Das, who has been running a nursery in Gurgaon over the past five years, said, “This is third time that I have sent entries for the flower show. We get to interact with a lot of people during the show and many buy plants as well. Before coming for the event, we perfect the sales pitch to convince visitors to buy from us.”
Huda said the event has also drawn many participants from across the NCR, especially Delhi, Faridabad and Ghaziabad.
Surender Singh, a visitor, said, “This is a good initiative by the Huda. I visit the flower show every year and purchase plants for my own domestic nursery.”
