After its much-hyped promise to deploy three women constables each at all the five Metro stations in the city, the Gurgaon police have failed to deploy even a single lady constable at any of the stations.
On top of that, the Haryana Police had last year promised a dedicated Metro police force with 58 officers. But all the city has got in the name of security is just nine policemen deployed at the Iffco Chowk Metro station, responsible for all five stations in Gurgaon.
The lone lady constable, deployed at the same station, has been on leave since long.
At present, one SHO, two sub-inspectors and five constables are the only officials deployed at the Iffco Chowk Metro police station. The city police had earlier promised that three women constables will be posted 24X7 at - Guru Dronacharya, Sikanderpur, MG Road, Iffco Chowk and Huda City Centre metro stations.
The failed promise, coupled with the outrage over the recent gangrape incident, is swelling public anger.
The city police on Thursday deployed an all-women PCR van on MG Road for ensuring women's security in the city after the shocking gang rape of the pub worker. Earlier, the police had claimed that the dedicated team, in addition to Central industrial security Force (CISF) personnel provided by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), would make commuters, especially women, feel secure.
But the on-ground situation presents a stark contrast.
"There is only one lady constable at the Metro police station and she has been on maternity leave. Last year, the then police commissioner SS Deswal had announced that 58 police personnel would be deputed. He also promised a police booth at all the Metro stations. How can they ensure law and order with such a minimal force," said a senior police officer.
