The main accused and his accomplice in the murder of 32-year-old gau rakshak Sandeep Kataria were arrested from near a guesthouse in Sector 38 on Sunday evening.
The arrested men were identified as Lalit alias Moni kataria and Bittu.
Kataria, who owned a cow shelter near Basai village, was shot dead on October 15 allegedly by his nephews to avenge the murder of their mother that took place 10 years ago.
The police had registered the murder case against five men, including the two nephews, at Sector 10A police station.
The police said the primary motive for the murder appears to be revenge as the youth believed that Kataria had a hand in the murder of their mother.
ACP Hawa Singh said, “During questioning, the accused revealed that 10 years ago, when he returned from school, he had seen Kataria murder his mother. The crime teams arrested the two accused. This is a family dispute and the nephew had earlier also attacked Kataria.”
The two men were produced before a city court on Monday and Moni was remanded in police custody for three days while Bittu was sent to judicial custody for 14 days, the police said.
According to the police, around 9pm on October 15, Kataria’s nephews Johhny and Moni, along with a few others, reached Shri Krishna Gaushala in Sector 9. Kataria was on the phone and the two of them took out pistols (4.75mm) and shot him dead, the police said.
Kataria sustained three bullet injuries in the head and chest and the assailants fled the spot. The employees of the cow shelter rushed Kataria to a private hospital in Sector 38, where doctors declared him brought dead, the police said.
The employees also recognised the assailants as Kataria’s nephews and informed the police about the incident.
The police said in August 2013 also, Kataria was attacked at the same cow shelter by unknown assailants.
