Residents of Suncity in Sector 54 said the district town planner’s (DTP) order has failed to check people from carrying out unauthorised construction in the locality.
The DTP, in orders dated October 9 and 16, 2014, stated that “the occupation certificate will stand withdrawn, if a plot owner raises any unauthorised construction”. It further said “sewer connection to such plot owners would be disconnected immediately.”
Residents said unauthorised construction was being carried out in several blocks of the area. “Not only on plots housing economic weaker section (EWS) flats, illegal construction is being carried out in other parts of the locality too.
As per the law, developers are allowed to construct ground plus two floors. But most of the time, they construct two additional floors, which put extra burden on power and water infrastructure,” said a resident.
According to the EWS housing scheme rules, only two-and-ahalf storey should be constructed for BPL (below the poverty line) families. However, the developer is constructing additional floors, with gensets on the terrace. Meanwhile, officials of Suncity said it was the duty of the town and planning department to check illegal construction.
“We have already issued notices in Suncity, prohibiting the construction of more than two-and-a-half floors in EWS housing. We have written to the builder as well as the police to check such activity.
I have also ordered the officials concerned to disconnect sewer connections to such houses. We will seal all unauthorised floors if no action is taken by the builder,” said Sanjeev Maan, DTP.
