The Block C of Mayfield Garden, Sector 51, has been completely covered via CCTVs, LED lights and fencing as a preventive measure taken by the RWA in the light of frequent thefts in and around the area.
More than 48 cameras and 121 LED lights have been installed in the block, which is spread over 40 acres of land. Residents have been residing in the sector for the past 16 years. Earlier, women felt unsafe while venturing out in the night.
Reportedly, there has been a recent increase in theft cases adjacent N and J block of the colony and several two-wheelers have been reported missing. The RWA has spent `6 lakh on the project for safety and security of the residents.
“The CCTV surveillance system will prevent crime in the area, including vehicle theft. Apart from the cameras, there are many other measures undertaken by the RWA to improve resident’s welfare, some of them are metal fencing around the boundaries and fitting of LED street lights in place of the regular lights,” said RWA president Sanjeev Chauhan.
Fences have restricted entry of miscreants, stray cattle and dogs. LED lights have added to additional benefits by cutting down the electricity consumption of the colony by almost 70% and making the area safer at night.
“Each apartment owner has contributed `3,000 for the security and the funds are managed by the RWA members. We want to set an example for other localities and spread awareness for the need of CCTV cameras,” said Chauhan.
Residents feel safer after the steps were taken by the RWA and believe that it will contribute in lowering burglary and petty crime incidents in the block.
“CCTV cameras will capture the entry and exit of all domestic helps and residents, the RWA members will monitor the CCTV footage regularly and a security guard is deployed at the control room who will watch the footage throughout the day and night in two shifts,” said Nikhil Kinha, a resident.
“We are comfortable as the block is now gated and under strict supervision,” said Neera Shastri, a resident whose house was burgled in 2014 while she was away on a holiday with her family.
