Residents take on builder over ‘sewer’ fee

The residents of South City-2 are up in arms against the builder for providing deficient services.
Ranging from power outages to bad roads, poor sanitation and ‘sewer charges’, residents have claimed that the builder, Unitech, has failed to provide adequate services. “How can residents be charged for using the sewer? We are paying for using our washroom,” said Suresh Sharma, president of the RWA.
On this, Unitech spokesperson claimed, “The buyer’s agreement shows that residents need to pay sewer charges separately. The monthly sewer bill comes to be approximately R9.2 lakh. The residents have an outstanding amount of R3 crore as maintenance fees.”
The residents also complained of power outages. “Unitech has not upgraded transformers. Power cuts have become frequent,” said BS Chauhan, security member of the RWA.
However, Unitech spokesperson claimed, “The township is equipped with transformers. But residents are using more than the sanctioned load. Despite DHBVN’s repeated ‘disclosure schemes’, residents haven’t disclosed the actual usage. Transformers can be upgraded only after the disclosure.”
The roads are also in a deplorable state. RS Gangwani, president of Block D-1, claimed, “Unitech laid substandard roads and has not re-carpeted them from a long time,” said Gangwani. The builder’s spokesperson claimed, “Between March, April and May, R2.71 crore was spent on upgrading roads.”
Besides this, residents have also complained of poor sanitation and inadequate security. “Stray animals enter the complex. Garbage and polythene bags are strewn around. The strength of security staff and sanitation workers has also decreased,” said the RWA president.
