A 22-year-old man was killed and six others seriously injured on Saturday evening after two groups clashed following a dispute over right of way on Sohna Road. Police have booked 10 people on the charges of murder and rioting but no arrests have been made so far.
Amit Kumar, a resident of neighbouring Ratan Pur Dhani village, was on his way to his village in his Toyota Innova with three friends.
As they reached Dhumaspur village they saw a Mahindra Marshal MUV standing in the middle of a narrow road in front of a milk booth. They honked, but the milk booth owner, Bhim Singh, did not move his vehicle.
Following an argument, Amit Kumar and Bhim Singh landed in a fight.
Soon, Amit's friends and Bhim Singh's three sons joined the fray. At some point, the sons asked their uncle to get iron rods and sticks.
Bijender Singh, a resident of the same village, was passing by along with two friends when he saw his friend Amit being beaten up. They intervened on Amit's behalf and tried to stop the fight but Bhim Singh and his kin did not listen to them and started pounding the three with iron rods and sticks.
Other villagers intervened and stopped the fight but by then, seven men — comprising Bijender Singh, Amit Kumar and their five friends — were critically injured.
They were rushed to Pushpanjali Hospital where 22-year-old Bijender died on Saturday night while undergoing treatment. Amit said, "Bhim Singh and his sons started the fight intentionally."
Inspector Rajpal Singh, station house officer (SHO), said, "These two villages have traditionally been at loggerheads."
Bijender Singh, who used to assist his father in farming, is survived by his wife of two months. Two of the injured are in a critical condition at Pushpanjali Hospital near Rajiv Chowk. Inspector Rajpal Singh added, "A case has been registered against 10 men and we will arrest them soon."
The accused were booked under Sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 148 (rioting), 149 (armed with deadly weapons) and 506 (threaten to kill) of the IPC.
