Wife of 42-year-old Ashok Kumar, accused in the murder of Ryan International student, met him on Thursday in Bhondsi jail first time since his arrest seven days ago. After the meeting, she claimed that Kumar was innocent and he had been forced into a confession by the police.
Gurgaon police had arrested Kumar on September 8, hours after an 8-year-old student of class 2 was found lying in a pool of blood outside a toilet at the Ryan International School, Bhondsi.
Kumar’s wife Mamta claimed on Thursday night that the Gurgaon police had threatened her husband to make a confession. She claimed Kumar had told her that the child was already dead when he picked him up. Mamta, 24, claimed that her husband was innocent and had been framed by the school management.
“I went to meet my husband along with Anuradha from my village Ghamroj. He cried the moment he saw me and said he had not committed any crime. He was not even aware that the police is framing him for murder. He was asked to confess or face dire consequences. The police tortured him and also gave him two injections. He is not aware what that was for,” Mamta said.
“My husband said that he was not carrying a knife. He was not even aware that the boy was murdered with a knife,” Mamta added.
Mamta alleged that the police was trying to protect the culprits. She demanded a CBI probe.
Mohit Verma (26), a lawyer from Rohtak, will appear as Kumar’s defence counsel on Monday. “I went to meet my client and he has explained the sequence of the 10 minute journey from school entrance to the toilet and back. He was scared and said he is not safe in jail,” Verma said.
Officials, however, denied the allegations made by Kumar’s family members and lawyer. They said the probe is fair and the accused is already under arrest. “We are still investigating and interrogating everyone present on the spot at the time of the crime,” a senior police official said.
Commissioner of police, Sandeep Khirwar has held his stand that the police investigation are going in the right direction and a charge sheet would be filed soon.
