The city on Monday witnessed a pleasant day as rain clouds hovered over most parts of the city for the entire day, with drizzles reported.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius on Monday and the maximum temperature was 37 degrees Celsius.

The sun was not visible for the most part of the day and that brought relief from the hot summer this season.

Residents were seen welcoming the season’s first showers as the temperatures dropped by five degrees Celsius.

“The light showers that the region is experiencing is because of the western disturbance movement across the region. The weather is likely to take a turn and by Tuesday and Wednesday the sky will be clear,” said an official of India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“Apart from the Western disturbance wind, the region is also affected by the upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining south Pakistan which has created low pressure. As a result the region is experiencing rain,” the official said.

In the next 24 hours, rainfall is likely in the western Himalayas, the weather department predicted.

On Sunday the city recorded 4mm of rainfall, according to the IMD.

This year, the heat wave has appeared much earlier than expected and the IMD also predicted that during the next few weeks the heat wave will intensify in the region. At present both maximum and minimum temperatures are marked five degrees above normal.
