Seven Gurgaon RWAs get ₹5 lakh each from MCG for meeting property tax target
The money allocated would be used by the RWAs for carrying out maintenance workUpdated: May 28, 2017 23:30 IST
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) allotted ₹5 lakh each to seven residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) in the city for maintenance and development activities on Saturday. The cash reward for the RWAs was for ensuring payment of property tax dues by more than 80% residents in their areas.
MCG officials said the move is aimed at encouraging payment of property tax. A 15% rebate scheme is currently on offer for residents who wish to clear their dues. The scheme will expire on June 15.
RWA’s of sector s4, 7, 14, Shivaji Nagar, Shivpuri, Jal Vayu Vihar and Maruti Vihar received the lump sum from the MCG.
“The RWA’s can use the sum for beautifying parks, expanding green belts, redeveloping community centres and for carrying out other maintenance-related projects. The initiative was initiated for incorporating grassroot level bodies such as RWA’s into schemes of the MCG, which enhances community participation and the MCG’s interaction with the public,” SS Rohilla, spokesperson of MCG, said.
MCG officials added that more RWA’s would be eligible for the allocation if 80% residents clear property tax by May 31.
To meet MCG’s incentive, RWA’s are keen on reaching the requisite target and avail ₹5 lakh reward.
The RWA of Qutub Enclave in DLF Phase 1 conducted a property tax camp on Sunday and also invited Gurgaon MLA Umesh Aggarwal for conducting door-to-door campaigns and attracting taxpayers from clearing their dues.
“Aside from the MCG’s monetary incentive, we regularly conducted property tax camps for the convenience of senior citizens who had trouble visiting the MCG offices at sector 34 or Civil Lines. They cleared their dues at the camp. It is fitting that our effort has been recognised by the MCG. The cash prize will be used in providing better amenities to residents,” Dinesh Aggarwal, president, RWA, Sector 14, said.
