The National Highways Authority (NHAI) will soon introduce a voice-based android phone application that will alert commuters about highway jams, accidents, and the availability of highway patrol assistance and ambulances. User can also make toll payments through the app.
The app will also integrate the digital map of Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and a user who has installed the app can search for wayside amenities such as petrol pumps, hospitals and food courts.
The NHAI aims to reduce traffic congestion on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and ensure smooth toll payment at Kherki Daula toll plaza with the help of the app -- Highway Saathi.
Using the app, users can upload images of an accident or an emergency that will be shared with the highway control room, highway patrol, the concessionaire, other registered users and NHAI. This will ensure that people using the highway are aware of an emerging situation, and real time assistance can be made available to highway users.
The application is being tested on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway but it will be functional on the entire Delhi-Jaipur highway, an official of highway concessionaire MCEPL said. “Using this application, people can check toll rates of all three plazas on Delhi-Jaipur highway,” he said. The app will send voice alarms to users about real time status of the road.
In a couple of days, the app will be tested between the defunct Sirhaul toll plaza and Kherki Daula, and for this, tabs will be given to the highway control room, highway patrol, MCEPL, and NHAI officials. “Once the application passes the test phase, it will be available for the public. Mobile payment gateways are also being integrated and users can recharge their accounts and make toll payments through it,” the official said.
The data of individual app users will also be analysed. Based on the results, they will get voice suggestions about what speed should be optimum for them and the status of traffic lights on the highway.
