The Nawada-Naharpur industrial area near Industrial Model Township (IMT) Manesar has been stinking unbearably.
With no sewer lines in the area that houses a number of prominent companies, tonnes of human excreta collected from neighbouring Naharpur-Kasna village are disposed in the fields adjoining the area.
Around two lakh people, including employees of the factory units, have to bear the foul smell.
Companies such as Donaldson, Minda, Om Logistics, Kansal Industries and automotive firms like ASK and Marse have their offices in the area. The industries sprang up in the area from 1994 onwards after the change in land use.
Gurgaon deputy commissioner PC Meena shrugged the ‘stinking’ woes as a “non-issue” and put the onus on the industries. “Why don't the industrialists do something about it on their own?” he asked.
Meena, however, said that the existing sewer lines of the neighbouring IMT Manesar could be extended to the Naharpur village. “We will think on those lines too,” he said.
“The existing sewer lines of the neighbouring IMT Manesar could be extended to the Naharpur village. We have already moved a proposal for road repair,” Meena said.
Village sarpanch Vikram Singh expressed helplessness citing no alternative provided by the authorities to dump toilets.
Alban Bernier, MD, Donaldson, one of the the most affected units, said, "We pay crores of taxes to the governments and expect basic amenities like sewerage and roads."
Besides, the Naharpur-Hayatpur Road that houses the industries on its either side is in dilapidated condition.
Nirmal Minda, CMD of Minda industries, said that the industrialists have raised the issue with the state industries department.
Despite an assurance in this regard six months back, nothing has happened.
Meena said he has already moved a proposal “in his capacity” to repair roads and awaiting the engineering department to chalk out the feasibility of plan. The said road is an important link between NH-8 and Hayatpur on Pataudi Road.
