Confusion had dominated the concert by American artiste Skrillex from the beginning, it has emerged.
The Gurgaon administration had not been informed about the total expected attendance at the venue. Though the organisers had sought permission for a crowd of 5,000, about 10,000 people reached the concert.
Many say the unprecedented crowd was responsible for the death of 23-year-old Aanchal Arora. She collapsed and could not be revived. One of her friends had also collapsed due to massive congestion at the venue.
With the administration aware about only half the number of concert-goers, the security arrangements were also grossly inadequate. The 80-90 constables deployed for security at the venue proved too few for double the crowd communicated to the administration.
The Gurgaon administration has taken cognizance of the incident, and action is likely to be taken against the organizers but the officials themselves are confused because one company took the permission for the event, another took the liquor licence and the ticketing was handled by another.
Deputy commissioner, Gurgaon, TL Satyaprakash said a detailed inquiry had been ordered into the incident, and those responsible for violations would be booked.
Deputy excise and taxation commissioner Aruna Singh said the Excise Act had been invoked against the company that had obtained liquor licence. Action would be taken against it for serving liquor to underaged youths.
The Gurgaon administration was not clear till Tuesday night which event management company organised the event. A section of the media had reported that the gig was managed by Scoop Brand Holdings Pvt. Ltd.
Satyaprakash said on Tuesday that the event was actually produced by the Mumbai-based Clockwork Events. All NoCs from the district administration were issued in the name of Clockwork Events Pvt Ltd, Mumbai.
“We’d like to clarify that we were not involved with the production of this event. Scoop has one of the best industry track records on health and safety and that will continue to be our foremost concern for any project that we associate with,” said Abhishek Mehta, CEO, Scoop Brand Holdings Pvt. Ltd.
