The two women allegedly involved in the murder of Haryanvi folk singer Lala Saini were active participants in the whole plot, police said. Sources said one of the women took the call to kill the singer after it became clear that he could not pay the ransom. The prime accused, before shooting Lala, allegedly called one of the women for consent.

The two women were arrested from Rohtak on Wednesday, three days after the murder of Joginder alias Lala Saini.

Saini was shot dead by three men -- Mahesh, Sachin and Gaurav -- on Sunday after they abducted him hoping to get a ransom. A Palam Vihar crime branch team arrested the trio the same day.

On Wednesday, the crime branch team from Palam Vihar arrested two more accused -- Anjali from Rohtak and Tanu from Bahadurgarh -- from a room they had rented in Rohtak. They had recently shifted to Rohtak from Bahadurgarh, after getting to know about the arrest of their three accomplices in Gurgaon, and suspecting that police would be after them.

A six member team of the crime branch led by inspector Sajjan Singh arrested the two women from their hideout in Rohtak. “The two women are equally involved in the crime. They had interacted with the accused prior to the killing and were part of the plot,” he said.

Sumit Kuhar, deputy commissioner of police, crime, said the role of the women came to the fore after questioning the three men. “They were shifting locations and cautious to avoid police. However, a combination of human and technical surveillance helped in nabbing them,” he said.

Earlier, on being questioned, one of the men had revealed that he had stolen money from a businessman, who is a liquor trader. The trio had planned to kill him and brought weapons from Alwar in Rajasthan.
