A city court on Friday sentenced two men to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for assaulting, robbing and stealing an auto-rickshaw from a 32-year-old driver in November 2017.
District sessions judge Ravi Kumar Sondhi pronounced the sentence for Manoj Kumar (21) and Monu Singh (19), both residents of Badshahpur, and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convicts.
The two men, out on bail since April last year, were arrested and sent to Bhondsi jail on Friday. The incident took place on November 19, 2017 around 12.30 am, when the two men boarded the auto-rickshaw of the victim from the Huda City Centre Metro station. When the auto-rickshaw was in Sector 57, the accused asked the driver to stop and got down. “After a dispute of money, the accused assaulted the victim, pulled him out of the auto and fled with the vehicle,” said Shamsher Singh, ACP (crime).
Public prosecutor Anurag Hooda said the accused were identified before the executive magistrate in Bhondsi jail on February 23, 2018. The victim testified before the court, resulting in conviction.
