A day after a 28-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide, the police on Friday arrested her husband and booked her in-laws for allegedly harassing her for dowry.
According to the police, the body of the woman was found hanging from the ceiling fan on May 9. The husband had recorded a statement with the police, saying that she had allegedly committed suicide. However, no note was recovered from the spot.
The case was registered on the complaint of the father of the deceased. He said that her daughter got married to the 30-year-old physiotherapist in February this year and the couple was living in a rented accommodation in village Wazirabad in Sector 52. “After a month of their marriage, the accused started demanding dowry from my daughter. She was depressed and wanted to return to us. Her in-laws had even hit her once,” father told the police.
A case was registered under Section 304-B of the IPC at the Sector 53 police station. The husband was sent to judicial custody on Friday. “The victim’s body was handed over to her family after autopsy at the Civil Hospital,” said Deepak Kumar, SHO, Sector 53 police station.
