The all-women con gang would have continued to steal from families in Gurgaon had it not been for the presence of mind of a 55-year-old businessman, one of their victims.
Ravinder Bansal is a real estate consultant and lives in Belvedere Towers at DLF City Phase 2. His family was duped by the gang on December 28, the police said.
On February 16, Bansal went to pick up his grandchildren from school in Sushant Lok . On the way, he chanced upon the two women, who had come to his house pretending to be domestic helps and decamped with valuables worth Rs 8.5 lakh. Bansal decided to follow the women. He called his son and told him to inform the police. He then tailed the women in his car.
The women entered a multi-storey house in Sushant Lok. Bansal parked his car outside the house and stood there as he did not want to create a ruckus, the police said.
He saw that the women again pretended to be domestic helps and sought work from the family on the ground floor.
“The family refused to hire them. They then went to the first floor but did not get work there also,” Bansal said.
“When their plan did not materialise, the women came out within a few minutes. It was then that I stopped and questioned them. They pretended to be innocent and tried to escape. But then some people gathered there and helped me stop them,” Bansal said.
After some time, two personnel from the Sushant Lok police station arrived there and took the women and Bansal to the Sector 29 police station.
On being questioned, they broke down and allegedly confessed that they were members of a gang of thieves.
They were then handed over to the crime unit for further investigation.
The police said they recovered a camera, watch and other valuables from them.
