The work on the third unit of the Chandu Budhera water treatment plant is set to start soon. The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) had floated tenders for the work.
According to officials, the work on the unit is likely to take off by end of March. The Rs. 38-crore project is scheduled to be completed in 18 months.
“The contract will be awarded after bids will be opened on Tuesday. The work will start within 20 days,” said S Piplani, engineer, the Huda.
The total capacity of the plant is 110 MGD.
Another water treatment plant of 60 MGD capacity has been made operational at Basai village.
The project would enhance Huda’s water supply capacity in the next 18 months — the deadline set for the completion of the work.
Meanwhile, the work on the second unit of the plant is already in progress and is likely to be completed in June. “The deadline for the completion of the second unit with a capacity of 22 MGD is June. We have instructed the contractor not to miss the deadline,” said the engineer.
The work on a 22-MGD unit completed in last August. “After completion of all the three units, Huda would be able to supply adequate water to the city. It will have 66 MGD water supplying capacity at its new plant at Chandu Budhera. We already have 60 MGD water supplying strength at the old plant in Basai,” said Huda administrator Praveen Kumar.
The new plant was set up to meet the rising demand of the new upcoming sectors (58 to 115). “We are currently getting 8 to 9 MGD water supply from the first unit,” added Kumar.
