Grammy Award-winner Sam Smith will perform the theme song for the highly-anticipated Bond film Spectre starring Daniel Craig and Christoph Waltz. The song will debut on Wednesday.
Grammy-winner Sam Smith will perform the theme song of 24th James Bond film, Spectre starring Daniel Craig and Christoph Waltz and directed by Sam Mendes.
Smith had been the long-running favourite but had denied any involvement and even pointed the finger at Ellie Goulding, who had been another top choice alongside Ed Sheeran.
Smith, 23, follows on the heels of Adele, who sang the theme for Skyfall, winning an Oscar for her efforts, and keeps the Bond theme song firmly in the UK after a lengthy spell across the Atlantic, said The Hollywood Reporter.
Speculation that Adele would be returning to sing the title track for Spectre took off when the Oscar-winner was spotted leaving Abbey Road Studios.
Sam Smith's Instagram post yesterday however, hinted quite strongly that he would indeed be the chosen one.
Said Smith, "This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it."
Spectre, which will feature Daniel Craig in his fourth performance as James Bond, is due to be released in the UK simultaneously with its London world premiere on October 26 before hitting the US on November 6 and India on November 20.
