live commentary

  • Over 16. 1 run. Bowler: Mashrafe Mortaza. Australia: 83/1(rr 5.19)
  • 15.6

Mashrafe Mortaza to Steven Smith. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, back to bowler for no runs, fielded by Mortaza. Just as the players were going to take a drink the rain has started getting too heavy. This could be it for the day if the weather forecast is correct.

Unfortunately rain has won and both teams will take one point each. That means Australia move onto two points with just England left to play while Bangladesh will require a few more results to go there way if they are to proceed. Australia will be very unhappy after they were going to win comfortably but you can't do anything about the weather. Join us tomorrow to see England take on New Zealand.

OUT! L.B.W. Rubel Hossain to Aaron Finch. Length ball, outside off stump on the back foot defending, hit pad. Great comeback from Rubel after going for a boundary. His slingy action aided him in skidding the ball into Finch and trapping him on the back pad. No hesitation from the umpire.

  • Key events
  • 44.3

OUT! Bowled. Starc to Miraz. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, missed.

Four wickets for Starc with a quick, full and straight delivery which rearranges the stumps. Bangladesh have been bowled out for 182 in the 45th over with Tamim Iqbal top scoring with 95, playing a fantastic innings once again, and Shakib chipping in with 29. It was hard work for the batsmen from ball one with plenty of pace on offer and accuracy from Hazlewood in particular. Steve Smith will be very happy with the performances of his bowlers after they were off the pace last game. There is a bit of rain around as the players walk off but hopefully we will see a run chase later on.

  • 42.4

OUT! Bowled. Starc to Hossain. Length ball, outside off stump backing away pushing, missed. Two in two for Starc and he is on a hat-trick. Yet another batsmen that doesn't want to get in line with the ball as Starc finally gets his radar right. Three wickets in the over with two deliveries left and number 11 on strike.

  • 42.3

OUT! Bowled. Starc to Mortaza. Length ball, outside off stump no foot movement working, missed. Too quick for Mortaza and he doesn't want to get in line. Starc has his second with the ball smashing into leg stump and Mortaza nowhere near getting the bat in the way.

  • 42.1

OUT! Caught. Starc to Iqbal. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, top edge in the air uncontrolled to fine leg, by Hazlewood. Tamim falls five short of consecutive tons in the tournament. He has been tested against the short ball all day but this time he couldn't roll his wrists to keep it down.

  • 36.6

OUT! Bowled. Zampa to Mahmudullah. Leg spinner length ball, outside off stump on the back foot cutting, bottom edge. There is the wicket taking ability everyone is talking about. The ball skids onto Mahmudullah and he is slow to react with bottom edge deflecting into the stumps.

  • 34.2

OUT! Caught. Zampa to Rahman. Leg spinner half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed in the air under control to short extra cover, by Smith. People have been calling for Zampa to come into the attack and he makes an immediate impact. The ball is tossed up but Sabbir can only drill it straight to Smith at short extra cover.

  • 30.5

APPEAL! Cummins to Rahman. Back of a length, outside off stump no foot movement, hit pad to short leg for no runs, appeal made for L.B.W. Strange bit of cricket from Sabbir. The ball either kept low or he didn't pick it up as he seemed to just stand still and let it hit him. Australia are thinking about the review but height is a problem.

  • 29.5

OUT! L.B.W. Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Head to Al Hasan. Off break length ball, outside off stump down the track defending, hit pad. Gutsy decision from the umpire to give Shakib out LBW after the batsman had advanced down the wicket. Because of that Shakib reviewed immediately but it is going to stand with umpires call on impact.

  • 28.2

That is 100 for Bangladesh off 172 balls.

  • 23.3

That is 50 for Tamim Iqbal off 71 balls.

  • 21.6

Dropped Catch! Starc to Al Hasan. Short, outside off stump on the back foot cutting, well timed in the air under control to deep backward point for 2 runs, dropped catch by Maxwell, fielded by Cummins. A rare error from Maxwell at point. The ball is struck very firmly at him and he cannot hang on. He looks in pain.

  • 16.2

OUT! L.B.W. Henriques to Rahim. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot working, inside edge. Bangladesh are in all sorts of trouble as Mushfiqur plays all around a straight delivery. This looked plumb but on the replay there seems to be a slight touch off the inside edge. Strange that Mushfiqur didn't ask for the review.

  • 10.2

OUT! Caught. Cummins to Kayes. Back of a length, down leg side on the front foot driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to cover, by Finch. Another ball banged into the pitch from Cummins and Kayes is not commited on the front or back foot. The ball gently lobs to the fielder who is waiting patiently on the edge of the ring.

  • 5.2

OUT! Caught. Hazlewood to Sarkar. Length ball, down leg side on the front foot pushing, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Wade. It wasn't a great innings from Sarkar. He struggled against both bowlers, and especially the movement off the pitch Hazlewood was getting. A tentative push with his hands away from his body and the edge is taken. Good start from the Aussies.
