live commentary

  • Over 48. 4 runs. Bowler: Adam Milne. Bangladesh: 268/5(rr 5.58)
  • 47.2

FOUR! Adam Milne to Mosaddek Hossain. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, outside edge past third man for 4 runs. Edged through the vacant slips, but it does not matter how they come, cause Bangladesh win by five wickets!

Three surprise results on the trot. New Zealand have been knocked out by the Tigers, who were the much better team on the day. An all round performance, but the two hundreds from Shakib al Hasan and Mahmudullah will get the headlines. A disappointing tournament for the Kiwis. Apart from Williamson, none of them stood up to put in a decent performance. Bangladesh now hoping for an England win tomorrow, as that will mean they go through to the semis.

  • 47.1

Adam Milne to Mosaddek Hossain. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot Steer, to gully for no runs, fielded by Guptill.

  • Over 47. 15 runs. Bowler: Trent Boult. Bangladesh: 264/5(rr 5.62)
  • 46.6

FOUR! Trent Boult to Mahmudullah. Length ball, down leg side on the front foot Slog, well timed in the air under control past deep square leg for 4 runs. The second world class innings today. Mahmudullah clears the front leg and mows it behind square for a one bounce four. Incredible scenes in Cardiff. He kisses the turf in joy.

That is 102 for Mahmudullah off 116 balls.

  • 46.5

  • 46.3

OUT! Bowled. Trent Boult to Shakib Al Hasan. Length ball, off stump on the front foot Slog, missed. Straight through him this time. Shakib takes his eye off the ball as he tries to hit it into orbit, and middle and off are demolished. It was in the slot for a big stroke, but he couldn't connect.

  • 46.2

FOUR! Trent Boult to Shakib Al Hasan. Short, outside off stump backing away driving, well timed past deep extra cover for 4 runs. Four more! Shakib wants to get this over and done with. Belted through extra cover along the deck.

  • 46.1

FOUR! Trent Boult to Shakib Al Hasan. Half volley, down leg side backing away driving, well timed past long on for 4 runs. Great striking from Shakib. Boult tries to follow down leg, but a thumping drive with a nice high elbow screams away for four.

  • 45.6

Adam Milne to Shakib Al Hasan. Length ball, off stump on the front foot driving, to mid off for 1 run, shy attempt by Williamson.

  • 45.5

SIX! Adam Milne to Shakib Al Hasan. Short, outside off stump on the back foot hooking, top edge in the air uncontrolled over fine leg for 6 runs. Brilliant way to go to a century. A masterclass from Shakib today. He gets a bit of luck with the top edge, but he deserves it, and it carries all the way for a maximum.

  • 41.1

FOUR! Mitchell Santner to Mahmudullah. Stock ball half volley, off stump backing away driving, well timed in the air under control past long off for 4 runs. A quick shuffle outside leg stump to give him room to free the arms, then Mahmudullah unleashes a bullet drive to the long off fence.

  • 40.3

FOUR! Tim Southee to Shakib Al Hasan. Short, outside off stump down the track driving, well timed past deep cover for 4 runs. Shakib skips down and bashes it through the covers for four. It went like a rocket as he flat-batted with power. Astonishing shot.

  • 38.6

Adam Milne to Mahmudullah. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot defending, to backward point for no runs, fielded by Guptill.

New Zealand cannot find a way through. Bangladesh just knocking the ball around with ease, which is all they need to do.

  • 38.5

Adam Milne to Mahmudullah. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, to cover for no runs, fielded by Broom.

  • 38.4

Adam Milne to Mahmudullah. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot defending, to short extra cover for no runs, fielded by Broom.

  • Key events
  • 48.4

APPEAL! Rahman to Southee. Yorker, middle stump backing away pushing, to short extra cover for no runs, direct hit by Al, appeal made for Run Out

  • 48.3

OUT! Bowled. Rahman to Milne. Yorker, middle stump moves in front flick, hit pad. Milne thinks the slower ball is coming, but the Fizz fires in a straight yorker to clean bowl Milne. Far too late on the shot, and the ball flicks the back leg before cannoning into leg stump. Too good.

  • 45.6

OUT! Stumped. Saikat to Neesham. Quicker ball back of a length, outside off stump down the track driving, missed to wicketkeeper, by Rahim. Intelligent from Mosaddek. He spots Neesham running down so fires it in quicker. The ball is past the bat before Neesham knows it, and Mushfiqur whips the bails off with him stood way down the track. What a spell for Bangladesh here.

  • 43.3

OUT! L.B.W. Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Saikat to Anderson. Off break back of a length, off stump on the back foot pushing, hit pad. New Zealand's dodgy middle order collapses again! Mosaddek proving to be a genius move by Bangladesh. A flat delivery skids past the inside edge of Anderson and pins him in front of leg. He was a long way back in the crease when he was struck, and the review doesn't save him.

  • 43.1

OUT! Caught. Saikat to Broom. Off break length ball, outside off stump down the track driving, top edge in the air uncontrolled to backward point, by Iqbal. Great change from Mortaza to bring on the spinner at this part of the game. Broom charges down the pitch to hit him out the park, but it ends up being a very ugly shot. A wild hack goes straight up in the air and is taken in the ring.

  • 40.3

That is 200 for New Zealand off 248 balls.

  • 38.4

OUT! Caught. Ahmed to Taylor. Leg cutter back of a length, off stump moves in front Scoop, top edge in the air uncontrolled to short fine leg, by Rahman. Good time to pick up a wicket for Bangladesh heading into the last ten overs. Taylor didn't get the pace on the ball that he was after to lift the ball over short fine leg. A clever change of pace from Taskin, and it is lobbed up to Mustafizur for a simple grab.

  • 34.1

That is 50 for Ross Taylor off 68 balls.

  • 32.1

APPEAL! Mortaza to Taylor. Off cutter length ball, outside off stump on the front foot working, hit pad to backward point for no runs, shy attempt by Hossain, appeal made for L.B.W. Big appeal from the Bangladesh captain, but Taylor gets outside the line of off stump. Tried to whip across the line there but couldn't connect.

  • 30.6

That is 51 for Mahmudullah off 61 balls.

  • 29.6

OUT! Run Out. Al Hasan to Taylor. Stock length ball, middle stump on the front foot working, to backward square leg, fielded by Hossain, by Al. Dodgy running from the batsmen, and it means Bangladesh break the partnership. Taylor nudges the ball behind square, meaning that it was Williamson's call. Kane wanted the single, but Taylor stood still, and he could not get back to the non striker's in time. Mosaddek was quick with the throw, and Shakib cleaned things up nicely.

  • 28.6

That is 50 for Shakib Al Hasan off 62 balls.

  • 24.4

That is 50 for Kane Williamson off 59 balls.

  • 24.2

That is 102 for Bangladesh off 151 balls.

  • 18.1

That is 102 for New Zealand off 111 balls.

  • 12.5

OUT! L.B.W. Hossain to Guptill. Seaming in length ball, off stump on the front foot pushing, hit pad. Guptill made a speedy start, but Rubel removes him with one that jags back in. The New Zealand opener was done slightly for pace too as the ball thudded into the front pad. No hesistation from the umpire. Would have gone on to clip the top of middle stump.

  • 11.5

APPEAL! Ahmed to Williamson. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, hit pad to point for no runs, fielded by Hossain, appeal made for L.B.W. Taskin has been excellent in this spell, picking up the wicket and beating the bat numerous of times. He nips this one back into Williamson and the Tigers go up for the appeal, but the Kiwi captain went across his stumps and was struck outside the the line.

  • 11.4

OUT! Bowled. Milne to Rahim. Seaming in back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot defending, missed. Milne replies with a beauty! Nipped back off the seam, Mushfiqur was stuck on the crease, and it goes through the gate to make a mess of the stumps. Rahim perhaps should've been forward, but was hanging back cause of the pace. The Kiwis are ripping through this Bangladesh line up.

  • 9.1

Dropped Catch! FOUR! Boult to Rahim. Back of a length, middle stump on the back foot pushing, outside edge past fine leg for 4 runs, dropped catch by Taylor. Edged and dropped. Not the easiest of chances but Taylor should be expecting to take that one. He is the lone slip, so had room to dive and take it two handed. He decided to only stick out the left hand, and palmed it away to the boundary.

  • 7.1

OUT! Caught. Ahmed to Ronchi. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket, by Rahman. Breakthrough for Bangladesh. This one rushed onto Ronchi, hit the splice of the bat, and looped up to Rahman at mid on for a comfortable take. Perhaps not the length to play the shot, but he was very late on it too.

  • 4.4

OUT! L.B.W. Southee to Sarkar. In-swinging length ball, to leg on the back foot defending, hit pad. What a spell this is. The ball ducks back in sharply and late. Sarkar gets nowhere near the ball, just sticking the bat out and hoping for the best. It hoops back past the inside edge to crash into the back pad. Looked pretty good at first glance, but the replays show that it was going over the top. Bangladesh can feel a touch unlucky.

  • 3.2

APPEAL! Boult to Sarkar. Seaming away back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot Fended, Gloved to slips for no runs, by Guptill, appeal made for Caught Jaffer from Boult this time. It has Souyma jumping up in discomfort and the ball balloons off the glove. They are checking whether the ball carried to Guptill at second slip. Soft signal is not out, Guptill wasn't sure himself. Replays shows that it bounced before it went into the hands.

  • 2.3

OUT! Caught. Southee to Rahman. Seaming away length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Ronchi. What a snorter from Southee. A pristine seam position, and it moves just enough off the pitch to kiss the outside edge. Not much Sabbir could've done, he had to play at it, just the delivery was too good. Two early wickets for the Kiwis puts them on top.

  • 0.2

OUT! L.B.W. Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Southee to Iqbal. In-swinging length ball, middle stump on the front foot working, hit pad. What a start for Southee. The in form man, Tamim Iqbal, goes second ball. Some nice shape back into the left hander, it then seams in off the pitch even further, and traps the Bangladeshi right in front. He reviews, but the replays confirm that the umpire made the right call.
