  • Over 41. 4 runs. Bowler: Adam Zampa. England: 240/4(rr 5.85)
  • 40.2

Adam Zampa to Ben Stokes. Leg spinner half volley, to leg on the front foot working, to mid wicket for no runs, fielded by Smith.

The rain cuts the game short, but it was inevitable that England were going to come through as the victors. What a convincing victory in the end. Australia were well below par on a decent batting track, which was down to the brilliance of Mark Wood and Adil Rashid. England did not get off to the best of starts with the bat, losing three early wickets, but then a mammoth partnership took the game away from the Aussies. Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes played absolute gems to see their side home and showed exactly why England are the favourites to win the whole competition. Group A is done and dusted then. Australia have been knocked out, so Bangladesh go through to the semi-finals alongside England.

  • 40.1

FOUR! Adam Zampa to Ben Stokes. Leg spinner back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot driving, well timed past deep extra cover for 4 runs. Ben Stokes, what a hundred! He slams a backfoot drive through the covers for four to bring up the three figures. Came in when the pressure was on England, and responded with constant positivity.

That is 102 for Ben Stokes off 108 balls.

  • 36.5

FOUR! Adam Zampa to Jos Buttler. Leg spinner half volley, off stump on the front foot driving, past long on for 4 runs, mis-fielded by Cummins. Buttler tries to hit it out the park, but miscues it short of the long on fielder, who makes a hash of things. It bounces off the palms to the boundary as Cummins crouches down to make the stop.

Mitchell Starc to Jos Buttler. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, to deep cover for 1 run, fielded by Maxwell.

  • 33.1

FOUR! Mitchell Starc to Jos Buttler. Half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed past deep cover for 4 runs. Australia have set an attacking field to the new batsman, but that is just giving the opportunity for Buttler to find the rope. Threaded through the offside, no one back for protection, four more.

  • 31.6

Mitchell Starc to Jos Buttler. Full toss, outside off stump on the front foot driving, to third man for 1 run, fielded by Cummins.

  • 31.5

OUT! Run Out. Mitchell Starc to Ben Stokes. Off cutter half volley, outside off stump on the front foot flick, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to mid on, direct hit by Zampa. The wicket that Australia so desperately needed. Will that change their fortune? Stokes chips the ball to mid on, sets off for the single instantly, but Morgan is caught ball-watching. He responds to the call late and by the time he starts to sprint, Zampa has already fired a throw at the stumps.

  • 31.4

Mitchell Starc to Ben Stokes. Yorker, outside off stump on the front foot driving, to point for no runs, fielded by Maxwell.

  • 31.3

Mitchell Starc to Ben Stokes. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, back to bowler for no runs, fielded by Starc.

Mitchell Starc to Eoin Morgan. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, mis-timed to mid wicket for no runs, fielded by Henriques.

  • Key events
  • 49.2

Dropped Catch! Stokes to Head. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, mis-timed to long off for no runs, dropped catch by Plunkett.

  • 46.4

OUT! Bowled. Wood to Zampa. Full toss, off stump no foot movement driving, missed. Far too quick for Zampa. It was a shin high full toss but goes through him to smash into off stump. Zampa tried an expansive drive but could only waft the bat through the air. A professional performance from the England bowlers here.

  • 46.1

That is 50 for Travis Head off 49 balls.

  • 45.6

OUT! Caught & Bowled. Rashid to Cummins. Googly length ball, outside off stump on the front foot working, leading edge in the air uncontrolled back to bowler, fielded by Rashid. A quality display of leg spin bowling from Rashid. He has been deceptive and accurate, a deadly combination. Cummins offers up another lollipop of a catch back to him. He might have read the googly actually, as he was trying to play to leg. Like Starc though, he closed the face of the bat and got a thick leading edge. What a comeback from England.

  • 43.6

OUT! Caught. Rashid to Starc. Googly full toss, down leg side on the front foot sweeping, top edge in the air uncontrolled to leg gully, by Root. Apart from the dolly of a catch, it is horrendous cricket all round. A filthly full toss should be put into the stands by Starc, but he too gets a leading edge that goes straight up. Timing was all wrong, and closed the face of the bat too soon. England are rallying.

  • 43.3

OUT! Caught & Bowled. Rashid to Wade. Googly half volley, off stump moves in front working, leading edge in the air uncontrolled to silly mid off, fielded by Rashid. A strange looking shot from Wade. He reads it all wrong, looks to nudge the ball to leg, and gets a leading edge that balloons back to Rashid for the return catch. A flurry of wickets for England are really pegging back the Aussies.

  • 42.3

OUT! Caught. Wood to Maxwell. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket, by Roy. Outstanding work from Roy in the deep. Wood works his magic once again. It looks like this is six off the bat, but Roy had other ideas. Mowed out to him at deep mid wicket, he jumps up to take a blinding catch, was going to step over the rope, so threw it back up in the air. He has time to get back inside the rope to complete the catch. Remarkable.

  • 42.1

APPEAL! Wood to Maxwell. Back of a length, outside off stump backing away driving, well timed to cover for no runs, dropped catch by Plunkett, direct hit by Plunkett, appeal made for Run Out All sorts going on here. Maxwell fires it at extreme pace to Plunkett at extra cover. It bursts through the hands, but he still has the awareness to pick up and throw at the stumps. Head was safely in. Plunkett would've been disappointed with the drop.

  • 39.2

That is 200 for Australia off 243 balls.

  • 32.1

OUT! Caught. Wood to Smith. Length ball, outside off stump moves in front pushing, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to mid off, by Plunkett. Great time for England to pick up the Australian captain. He could've really hurt them if he went on. Another tame end, similar to Henriques. Smith chips the ball to mid off after it spooned up off the toe. He was very early on it, and didn't transfer the weight going forward into the shot. Wood has another big scalp.

  • 30.3

That is 53 for Steven Smith off 70 balls.

  • 27.4

OUT! Caught. Rashid to Henriques. Leg spinner half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to mid on, by Plunkett. Superb bowling from Rashid. He has been in the groove today. He tosses this one up to entice the big shot, and Henriques succumbs. Shanked straight to Plunkett at mid on. A very soft dismissal.

  • 22.5

OUT! Caught. Stokes to Finch. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep cover, by Morgan. Just what England needed. They were on the backfoot until Finch decided to hit one straight up and needlessly give his wicket away. He tried to loft it over mid off, but it came right off the toe and plinked up to Morgan, who took a smart catch over his shoulder.

  • 21.3

APPEAL! Rashid to Finch. Slider back of a length, middle stump on the back foot working, hit pad to silly point for no runs, fielded by Buttler, appeal made for L.B.W. Finch not picking up Rashid well at all. This one is fired out the front of the hand and skids thorugh to hit the pad. Finch is well back in the crease, but the ball was going too far down leg.

  • 19.4

APPEAL! Rashid to Finch. Googly length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, hit pad to backward point for no runs, fielded by Roy, appeal made for L.B.W. Rashid is flinging out the googly to Finch, who is finding it difficult to read them. The ball spins back to hit the front pad, and Rashid is animated in his appeal. A little inside edge saved Finch.

  • 18.4

That is 50 for Eoin Morgan off 51 balls.

  • 18.3

That is 100 for Australia off 114 balls.

  • 17.5

That is 52 for Ben Stokes off 39 balls.

  • 16.3

That is 50 for Aaron Finch off 49 balls.

  • 14.6

That is 102 for England off 90 balls.

  • 7.2

OUT! Caught. Wood to Warner. Seaming away length ball, to leg on the front foot pushing, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Buttler. What a beauty from Wood! He angles the ball across Warner, who prods with hard hands right out in front. The ball jags just enough to kiss the edge, and Buttler mops up behind the wicket. Good breakthrough.

  • 5.5

APPEAL! Hazlewood to Stokes. Length ball, down leg side on the front foot pushing, hit pad to gully for no runs, fielded by Maxwell, appeal made for L.B.W. Massive appeal from Australia, but the umpire shakes his head immediately. Great call under pressure. The ball pitches way outside leg stump.

  • 5.4

OUT! Caught. Hazlewood to Root. Seaming away length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Wade. Hazlewood grabs a second! Huge wicket, as England's main man is the one to go. Excellent line and length once again. Root cannot do much as the ball nips away to flick the edge on the way through to Wade. Wonderful bowling. Australia back on top.

  • 3.6

Dropped Catch! Hazlewood to Morgan. Short, off stump on the back foot pulling, Gloved to fine leg for 2 runs, dropped catch by Wade, fielded by Zampa. Dropped by Wade down the legside. Morgan is on the pull, but is rushed and the ball flicks off the glove. Wade dove one handed to his right, but it didn't stick.

  • 1.2

OUT! Caught. Hazlewood to Hales. Seaming away back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot defending, outside edge to slips, by Finch. Australia are making use of the new ball! Hazlewood grabs one off his second delivery too, as Hales jabs at the ball and edges to first slip. Excellent line and length, Hales had to play, and it left him ever so slightly to take the nick. Australia have come roaring back into contention.

  • 0.2

OUT! L.B.W. Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Starc to Roy. Length ball, to leg on the front foot defending, hit pad. Done for pace. Starc strikes in his first over like he so often does for Australia. A slow trudge off for Roy, who fails again. Speared into the pads by the left armer, Roy was too late in defence, and it pinned him in front of middle. Good decision by the umpire. A review taken in hope, but he was plumb.
