Noor-ul-Haq, a tailor in E block of Rajajipuram, is on Cloud Nine. President-designate Ram Nath Kovind is a regular customer of this tailor, who has been stitching his clothes for the past 7 years. And now, Noor is busy preparing a special suit which he will present to Kovind, with the hope that he will wear it during the oath -taking ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan.

An elated Noor told HT on Thursday, “The day he was nominated as presidential candidate by the Bharatiya Janata Party, my family prayed for him to become President. Today our wishes were fulfilled. I will present him a special suit which I started stitching for him the day he was announced as presidential candidate.”

The outfit would have a Lucknowi touch and would reach the President-elect next week.

Noor said that Kovind was a very generous man and called him ‘masterji’.

He also disclosed that Kovind was very particular about his clothes. He liked pant-cut pyjamas with kurtas in which Noor is an expert. Seven years back when Noor met Kovind, he prepared a kurta and pant-cut pyjama which Kovind liked so much that he ordered another set. Not only that, he sent his car to bring Noor to the Governor’s house. He ordered two suits, 10 pyjamas and two pants for himself.

“Since then, every time he came to the city, he ordered some clothes for himself as he only likes clothes stitched by me,” said Noor.

Father of two sons and a daughter, Noor told HT he would like to visit Kovind once he became President.

“I am getting congratulatory messages since morning as his election to the post was certain. It seems as if a family member has become a President. Many people are demanding sweets from me and I am glad to oblige them. I am happy Lucknow will always remain present in the Rashtrapati Bhawan through clothes stitched by me,” said Noor.
