The defence ministry has refused to share details about the Agnipath scheme for military recruitment under the Right to Information, saying the file has been marked “secret”, according to a ministry letter. The reason for denying the information sought by Pune-based RTI activist, Vihar Durve, is not covered under sections 8 and 9 of the transparency law, according to RTI experts. Sections 8 and 9 list provisions under which information can be denied.

The central government reported ?6,157 crore outstanding as material liabilities across the country under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS), said minister of state for rural development Niranjan Jyoti in a reply to Lok Sabha. ?836 crore in material liabilities were recorded in Andhra Pradesh, followed by ?638 crore in liabilities from Karnataka. Odisha reported ? 187 crore, ?137 crore in Kerala, Assam ?112 crore and ?102 crore in Meghalaya.

The Delhi high court on Thursday granted bail to former CEO of the National Stock Exchange Chitra Ramakrishna in a money laundering case related to the alleged illegal phone tapping. Chitra Ramkrishna is already on bail in the CBI case on the alleged phone tapping. The detailed order is to follow. "The application is allowed. The applicant is granted bail," said Justice Jasmeet Singh.

Tripura elections: JP Nadda to release BJP manifesto today

Bharatiya Janata Party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda is set to release the manifesto for Tripura assembly elections at 12.30 pm on Thursday, according to a report by news agency ANI. Defence ministry signs contract with Larsen & Toubro for modular bridges

The defence ministry on Wednesday signed a Rs 2,585-crore contract with private firm Larsen & Toubro for 41 sets of indigenous modular bridges for the army's Corps of Engineers, the government said in a statement, stressing that the move would boost self-reliance in the defence manufacturing sector. Each modular bridge set will consist of seven carrier vehicles and two launcher vehicles, it said.
