All-Party Meeting highlights: 31 bills likely to be taken up during Parliament's monsoon session

"Enough of 'mann ki baat', we want to hear 'Manipur ki baat'," says Trinamool Congress leader @derekobrienmp ahead of Parliament Monsoon Session which is set to begin from tomorrow.

The situation in Manipur and the Delhi services ordinance are set to dominate the Monsoon session of Parliament beginning Thursday with the Opposition gearing up to raise these issues to corner the government.

The session begins close on the heels of 26 opposition parties forming the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to take on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The Opposition has been raking up the issue of Manipur violence. The northeastern state is witnessing ethnic violence since May 3 that has claimed over 160 lives.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi says, "The Session begins tomorrow. So, a meeting of All Party Floor Leaders was called. 34 parties and 44 leaders attended the meeting. We received important suggestions. Govt has 31 legislative listed items...All the parties want a discussion on Manipur and the Government is ready to discuss it..."

At all-party meeting, Shiv Sena called for a bill on Uniform Civil Code: Party's Lok Sabha leader Rahul Shewale.

"I had participated in the Business Advisory Committee meeting and raised all the issues that need to be discussed. At the all-party also, I raised the issues...our demand is that there is the issue of Manipur which must be discussed," Chowdhury told reporters as he left the all-party meeting after making his remarks as he had to attend another meeting.

"Two months have passed but the prime minister (Narendra Modi) is silent. I would like to request that he has been silent for over two months but he should at least make a statement in Parliament and allow us to hold a debate," he said.

"We want to bring an adjournment motion (for discussion) tomorrow as the situation in Manipur is deteriorating," Chowdhury said.

Ahead of the Parliament Monsoon session, Congress leader, Jairam Ramesh, on Wednesday said that the grand old party will raise issues including the Manipur situation, assault on the federal structure and others in the upcoming session.

"We want to have a discussion on the Manipur situation in the upcoming session of Parliament. The second issue is the assault on democratically elected state governments through Governors and LGs, Delhi ordinance is one such example," the Congress leader said.

He said that the party will also corner the Central government on the issue of inflation in the Parliament.

With the BJP and opposition parties sharpening attacks on each other as they gear up for a host of assembly polls this year and the Lok Sabha election next year, the Parliament session is expected to be stormy.

The Congress and other opposition parties are seeking to corner the government over the Manipur crisis besides the issues of price rise and alleged misuse of probe agencies.

The last session was also marred by frequent opposition protests.

The Centre on Wednesday said that it is ready to discuss the Manipur issue in the upcoming monsoon session of the Parliament. The decision was announced during an all-party meeting called by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government to discuss various matters for the monsoon session.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said there are 32 legislative items for the session.

Sources said Joshi had earlier in a meeting of the business advisory committee called by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla asserted that the government was willing to discuss the violence in Manipur, a matter raised by opposition leaders.
