A big controversy has erupted in Bihar’s Bhojpur in the wake of the release of trailer of a Bollywood film’ Anarkali of Aarah’ , in which an item number has been shot as being part of the silver jubilee functions of the local Veer Kunwar Singh University (VKSU).
Ara, or ‘Arrah’, as the film puts it, has been a sensitive district and the headquarters of Bhojpur, some 80 km west of Patna and is represented by BJP parliamentarian RK Singh, a former Union home secretary..
A livid vice chancellor of VKSU, Syed Mumtrazuddin said, “The university has no concern with films, but if a film derides the university and ascribes such sequences to it, we have to protest. The film makers should have thought twice before ascribing such scenes to an educational institution. It runs down the image and creates an imagery of a university as a platform for the lewd and the bawdy, which is farthest from the truth about VKSU. The sequence should be removed forthwith,” he said.
Chandranan Ojha, a former member of central film censor board and politician has shot of f a memorandum to the chairman of the board, requesting him to remove the controversial scene from the film, which runs down the image of the university, which engages close to 70,000 students.
Ojha said, the ascription also maligns the image of Kunwar Singh, a great freedom fighter of 1857 and also Bihar as it is derogatory in the extreme. He has asked the Bhojpur district magistrate , while writing to governor, Ramnath Kovind and chief minister, Nitish Kumar to take action”.
Swara Bhaskar's upcoming movie 'Anarkali of Arrah' revolves around an erotic singer from Ara in Bihar, popular for her songs. She is the star performer of the troupe and is confident of her success. However, her life takes a twist when she has a confrontation with a very powerful man of the region followed by a serious conflict.
The film is produced by Priya and Sandip Kapur while written and directed by Avinash Das. The film is set to release on March 24.
