The Federation of Indian Associations has set two records by taking part in one of the prominent annual events organised by the Indian diaspora in the United States – the India Day parade – and the other for the simultaneous flying of the most distinct flags. The first event saw one of the largest ensembles of 'damru' or the twin-headed drum. The feat will now feature in the Guinness World Records.

The Congress's Jairam Ramesh on Saturday took a sharp swipe on the BJP after it was reduced to less than 20 assembly seats in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state. Following the results, Arvind Kejriwal said that the AAP could now be called a ?national party?. On Himachal Pradesh, Ramesh targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remark that the difference in the vote share between the two parties was just 1 per cent.

Bhupendra Patel will continue as the chief minister of Gujarat for the second term after he was picked by the Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs unanimously in a legislative meeting, a BJP official said. On Thursday, Patel tendered his resignation along with his entire cabinet to form the new government. Patel and Gujarat BJP chief C R Patil will fly to Delhi on Saturday afternoon to meet top party leaders, according to the BJP official.

The Congress's Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday dismissed the speculation on him being viewed as a frontrunner in the race for the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister post. Apart from Sukhu, Mandi MP Pratibha Singh and former leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri were being viewed as frontrunners, HT had reported earlier. Speaking to reporters on Saturday Sukhu also took a swipe at the BJP. Rajiv Shukla told reporters.

APPSC paper leak case: CBI files charge sheet against eight accused

The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a charge sheet against eight accused in the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission alleged paper leak case, said a release by the agency on Friday. The charge sheet was filed in the court of a special judge at Yupia in Arunachal Pradesh in connection with the investigation of the alleged leakage of the question paper of the examination conducted by APPSC for the post of assistant engineer (civil).

'Since AAP came to power…': Kejriwal slams RPG attack on Punjab police station

Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday morning condemned the RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) attack on a police station in Punjab's Tarn Taran, and said those responsible would be caught. Unknown individuals attacked the police station in Tarn Taran's Sarhali with a RPG at 11.22 pm on Friday, police sources confirmed this morning. Sources told news agency PTI the grenade did not actually explode.

SC set to hear Bilkis Bano plea on release of rape convicts on Dec 13

The Supreme Court is set to hear Bilkis Bano's petition - challenging the early release of rape convicts - on December 13. A bench of justices Ajay Rastogi and Bela Trivedi will hear the matter. The release of the convicts in August had triggered nationwide outrage. Bilkis Bano had moved the top court against the release on November 30.

The Army is not being fair to women officers, remarked the Supreme Court on Friday as it failed to find a justification behind the Army conducting a selection board for promoting male officers in October while holding up the seniority of women officers who got permanent commissions by the court's intervention till additional posts are created.

Andhra Pradesh leader YS Sharmila - for the second day - continued her hunger strike against Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, popularly known as KCR. This came hours after a clash between her, the YSRTP party workers and cops was caught on camera. YS Sharmila is the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Reddy. She was detained amid huge protests. She has been waging the battle against KCR for several days now.

Police station in Punjab’s Tarn Taran attacked with RPG; probe ordered

Some unknown miscreants attacked Sarhali police station in Punjab's Tarn Taran with a rocket-propelled grenade during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, police sources said. Sarhali came under attack at around 1am on Saturday, said police. The rocket was recovered from the police station. This is the second such incident in Punjab in the last seven months where the police station was attacked with a rocket.
