Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders were at the Lodhi Colony police station for almost an hour after they courted arrest on Friday afternoon while protesting at the CBI office in Delhi against the Narendra Modi government’s move to divest the investigation agency’s director Alok Verma of his powers earlier this week.
The Supreme Court has directed that the probe against CBI chief Alok Verma be completed in 2 weeks. The probe would be conducted under the supervision of a retired judge of the Supreme Court.
Justice AK Patnaik, is requested to accept the assignment and ensure enquiry is completed within the time frame, the apex court said.
The feud between Alok Verma and special CBI director Rakesh Asthana escalated recently leading to registration of an FIR against Asthana and others including deputy superintendent of police Devender Kumar, who is in the CBI custody in an alleged bribery case.
