Centre to bring Model Prisons Act: Amit Shah

After introducing a model prison manual in 2016, the Union government will now bring a Model Prisons Act by amending the British-era law in the next six months, home minister Amit Shah said while addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the sixth All India Prison Duty Meet in Ahmedabad. Only 11 states and Union territories have so far adopted the manual, he said.

Fight against Left-wing extremism in final stage of victory: Amit Shah at 84th Raising Day of CRPF

Union Home Minister Amit Shah credited CRPF personnel for wiping out hindrances in development of Maoist-hit areas, saying the fight against Left-wing extremism (LWE) is in the final stage of victory. Incidents of LWE violence declined by 76%, and loss of lives (of civilians and security personnel) also went down by 78%. He also credited ED and NIA for stopping funding to LWE. Modi government is committed to provide facilities to security forces and standing with them in their pain.

Two hotel staffers arrested for assaulting Russian woman in Goa

Two hotel employees were arrested in North Goa for allegedly assaulting a Russian woman tourist in a bid to rob her. They entered her hotel room and tried to cover her mouth, causing her injuries. After interrogation, the two suspects confessed to the crime and were arrested. The tourist received minor injuries.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav calls for unity among anti-BJP parties, urging the Congress to support regional parties in different states to defeat the BJP in the 2024 general elections. Yadav draws parallels between Rahul Gandhi's disqualification and similar action against SP legislators in Uttar Pradesh since the BJP came to power in 2017. UP Congress spokesperson Ashok Singh urges Yadav to support the Congress in the fight against the BJP.

PM Modi urged Karnataka to vote for the BJP, saying the state needs a full majority government to ensure fast-paced development and end the "politics of manipulation". He asked the people to bring in a "strong and stable" government, and warned them not to give the Congress an opportunity to play their game. He also hit out at the Congress for treating Karnataka as an ATM.

Rahul, BJP trade punches on Adani, disqualification

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said PM Modi is "scared" of his next speech on Adani, and his disqualification from Lok Sabha would give the Congress a "weapon". BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad accused Gandhi of lying to gain political mileage for Karnataka elections. Gandhi said Modi is trying to save a "corrupt person" and he will continue to ask who invested Rs 20,000 crore in Adani Group. He also said he will write a letter to the people of Wayanad, his former constituency.

Fresh storms, hail rain misery on farmers

Heavy rain, hail, and a rare tornado have caused significant damage to key rabi crops in India, including wheat, mustard, oilseeds, and horticulture crops. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced a nationwide black day on March 27 to protest against the Rajasthan Right to Health (RTH) Bill, which gives rights to residents to avail free of cost treatment without prepayment. Healthcare professionals have raised concerns over the Act and asked how expenses will be reimbursed to private hospitals. IMA has asked all states to show solidarity by wearing black badges.

The Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Nehru, announced in the House of the People that an Andhra State comprising 11 Telugu-speaking districts of the present Madras State and a part of Bellary will come into being on October 1. The new State will have its temporary capital in Andhra territory, a unicameral legislature and its own High Court. A boundary commission will be appointed to determine the exact boundaries of the State. Legislation to give effect to the decision will be introduced in the next session of Parliament.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal praised the Punjab government for their crackdown on separatist elements linked to 'Waris Punjab De', an outfit headed by radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh.
