India gifts Dornier to Sri Lanka a day ahead of Chinese vessel arrival
India on Monday gifted a Dornier reconnaissance aircraft to Sri Lanka to bolster the island nation's capability to tackle drug trafficking and maritime security challenges, with the move coming a day ahead of a controversial visit by a Chinese research vessel. The aircraft was handed over during a special event held at the Sri Lankan Air Force base at Katunayake.

TN governor’s staff assaults cab driver; probe on: Police
A cab driver was allegedly assaulted by Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi's personal staff, police said on Tuesday, adding a probe has been started in the matter. A video of the incident shared on social media shows the driver and Thirugnana Sambandam, advisor of media and communication to the governor involved in a heated argument. Sambandam is heard asking the cab driver to stop recording the video and delete it. The driver had objected when Sambandam made him stop at multiple locations.

T’gana govt moves Supreme Court in MLAs’ ‘poaching’ case
The Telangana government on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court challenging the state high court's order transferring the investigation ? into a case related to the alleged attempts to poach four Bharat Rashtra Samithi lawmakers into the Bharatiya Janata Party ? to the Central Bureau of Investigation , an official privy to the development said.

Clashes erupt in parts of Kerala as Cong protests ₹2 cess on fuel
The Opposition Congress on Tuesday intensified its agitation against the state government's proposal to introduce ?2 cess on petroleum products and clashed with the police at several places across the state. In Kottayam district, Congress president Nattakom Suresh sustained injuries after a clash with police. Later, the district unit president alleged that the police pelted stones and attacked him without any provocation. Similar protests were reported from Thirssur, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.

State medical board to monitor Chandy’s health, likely to be airlifted to B’luru hospital
In the evening it was decided that Former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy, 79, who is undergoing treatment for pneumonia will be airlifted to Bengaluru hospital on Wednesday. Health minister Veena George added chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan asked her to visit the ailing Congress leader. Chandy was hospitalised on Monday. A section of Congress workers and Chandy's relatives complained he was not getting proper treatment. His relatives alleged they were not allowed to meet him. The former chief minister will be airlifted to Bengaluru hospital on Wednesday.

While Jeevani was sent to the custody of Foreigners Regional Registration Officers, there are several Pakistani women staying in coastal Karnataka's Bhatkal after legally marrying in India.

140 students fall ill, food poisoning suspected
At least 140 students from City Nursing Hospital and College, Mangaluru, fell ill and had to be rushed to the hospital, in a suspected case of food poisoning, in Mangaluru, police said on Tuesday. According to the police, the students had consumed chicken kebab and ghee rice at their respective hostelson Sunday night. All the students are studying nursing and paramedical courses. Health officials are suspecting food poisoning as the cause of the incident.

IPCC report to pull together key climate crisis facts: Jim Skea
New Delhi: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the world's largest body of climate experts, will release a synthesis report next month. The report is expected to provide information on historical responsibility for global warming and consumption patterns, Jim Skea, co-chair, Working Group, IPCC, and professor of sustainable energy at Imperial College London, said in an interview. It doesn't introduce any new information, but will draw out connections between the previous reports.

Chandrayaan-3’s likely landing sites finalised
The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) has finalised the coordinates of three possible landing sites for its third lunar mission ? Chandrayaan-3 ? expected to be launched later this year. All the probable landing sites are on the moon's south polar region on the side facing earth, senior scientists from the space agency said on Tuesday. Chandrayaan-3, expected to be launched at the end of 2023, will have a lander and a rover.

Assam detention centres for foreigners used to jail child marriage accused
Silchar: The Assam government has converted two of its detention centres for foreigners into temporary prisons for those arrested for their involvement in child marriages in the state, officials said on Tuesday. State police has already lodged 4,074 cases and arrested 2,510 individuals till Tuesday afternoon, according to Prashanta Kumar Bhuyan, inspector general of police, law and order. Far, 450 arrested persons have been shifted there.

JEE Main result 2023: UP twins ace exam, say helped each other prepare
Nipun Goel and Nikunj Goel, the twins from Uttar Pradesh's Hapur district, on Tuesday scored 100 and 99.998 percentile, respectively, in the Joint Entrance Examination (Main), the results which they said brought them a step closer to achieving their dream of studying computer science at an Indian Institute of Technology. It was a good learning experience as they studied under a roof, and scored similar marks in school exams, the brothers said.
