‘Indian airspace absolutely safe’: DGCA chief amid frequent snags; cites report of foreign carriers

Amid a series of technical snags reported by Indian carriers in the recent past sparking safety-related concerns, aviation watchdog DGCA's chief Arun Kumar on Sunday said such issues are faced by foreign airlines as well and dismissed the possibility of any "havoc" that could have been created by these glitches. Among other carriers, a spate of technical snags has been reported by low-budget airline Spicejet with DGCA curtailing its operations.

Lok Sabha House Committee has asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to vacate 12 Tughlaq Lane bungalow, which he has occupied since 2005. This follows his disqualification as an MP after he was convicted in a criminal defamation case. Gandhi claims the demand for apology was to distract from the Adani Group issue and his disqualification gives Congress a new weapon.

Opposition MPs protested in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Monday by wearing black and raising slogans of "Save Democracy." They protested against the Adani-Hindenburg controversy and Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from Parliament, disrupting proceedings. Despite the uproar, Parliament managed to approve the Union Budget for 2023-24.

BJP MP Poonam Mahajan took a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on VD Savarkar, saying he can never be Savarkar and is taking the country towards the dirt. Union ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Anurag Thakur also criticised Gandhi for not respecting former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and not understanding Savarkar's contributions to the country.

Rahul Gandhi asked to vacate govt bungalow, gets deadline

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been asked to vacate his government-allotted bungalow by April 22, after being disqualified as a Lok Sabha member following a two-year term conviction in a criminal defamation case. The notice was served by the Housing Committee of Lok Sabha, prompting a political tussle between the Opposition and the BJP. Opposition leaders have demanded a joint parliamentary committee-level investigation into the Adani-Hindenburg case, while BJP leaders have counterattacked the Congress.

Another member of Waris de Punjab, a pro-Khalistani group, has been shifted to Assam's Dibrugarh Central Jail. Varinder Johal, believed to be a bodyguard of leader Amritpal Singh, is the eighth detainee from Punjab to be moved to Assam in nine days. Additional security arrangements have been made with CCTV cameras and the Black Panther Commando deployed outside the jail.

UP Police brings Atiq Ahmed to Prayagraj amid tight security

Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed's convoy escorted by police entered Uttar Pradesh after crossing Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh. Ahmed expressed fear of being murdered outside the Sabarmati central jail in Ahmedabad and a vehicle in the convoy hit a cow in Shivpuri district. BJP Lok Sabha MP Subrat Pathak commented on the incident, saying he wouldn't be surprised if Ahmed's vehicle overturned like that of gangster Vikas Dubey.

Chhattisgarh: Two killed in alleged tiger attack, say forest officials

Two people were killed and one injured in an alleged tiger attack in Chhattisgarh's Surajpur district on Monday. The incident occurred near Kalamanjan village when the three were collecting wood. The family of the deceased will be given compensation and locals have been advised not to enter the forest.

Centre, Gujarat govt get SC notice on Bilkis Bano plea against 11 convicts' premature release

The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Centre and Gujarat government in a petition filed by Bilkis Bano against the premature release of 11 people convicted of her gangrape and murdering her family members during the 2002 Gujarat riots. A new bench will hear the case extensively on April 18 and consider setting up a new bench. The 11 men convicted of the crimes against Bano and her family were released on August 15 after one of them sought remission. The Gujarat government's 1992 policy, which was in effect at the time of the convicts' conviction, allowed for their premature release.

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav said India will focus on issues not completed in the last COP held in Egypt at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28). India is committed to increasing tree cover, biodiversity, and ecological balance through Project Tiger, Project Elephant, and Project Lion. India is also among the few countries that have achieved their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and submitted enhanced NDCs for COP 28. India Global Forum (IGF) Annual Summit 2023 will be attended by Union ministers to discuss how India can set the pace in a rapidly changing world.

Uddhav Thackeray faction boycotts Congress meet over Rahul Gandhi's Savarkar remarks

Shiv Sena (UBT) faction has decided not to attend a Congress meeting at party president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence on Monday due to Rahul Gandhi's "I am not Savarkar, I am Gandhi" comments. Thackeray said he considers Savarkar an "idol" and asked Gandhi to refrain from "insulting" him. Raut said "Savarkar is our inspiration" and that he will try to speak to Gandhi on the issue. A 42-year-old real estate agent and BJP functionary was killed in Puducherry on Sunday evening. CCTV footage shows two men on a motorcycle throwing bombs at the victim before one of them attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon. A murder case has been registered at the Villianur police station.
