Salman Khan issued weapon licence after death threat

The Mumbai Police have issued a firearm licence for self protection to Salman Khan after the Bollywood actor and his father, Salim Khan, received a death threat letter last month, a senior IPS officer confirmed on Sunday, The actor had applied for a gun licence and had also met Mumbai Police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar in this regard on July 22. “We issued the arms licence to the actor after completing all formalities,” the officer said.

India sends search and rescue teams to Turkey, relief material to Syria

NEW DELHI: India on Tuesday sent specialist search and rescue teams with dog squads, an army mobile hospital team and relief materials in two military heavy lift aircraft to Turkey, where the death toll continued to rise following Monday's massive earthquake. More than 50 search and rescue personnel from the National Disaster Response Force, specially trained dog squads, drilling machines, relief material, medicines and other equipment were despatched on a C-17 Globemaster aircraft early on Monday.

Over 7,000 officer vacancies pending in Indian Army: MoS defence in Lok Sabha

Over 7,000 officer posts have been lying vacant in the Indian Army since last year, minister of state for defence Ajay Bhatt said in a written response in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Replying to Janata Dal (United) MP Ram Nath Thakur, Bhatt noted that there are 511 vacancies in the role of military nursing officers as of December 15, up from 471 as of January 1 last year.

India to begin talks on climate, sustainability under G20 aegis this week

The Union environment ministry will begin discussions on climate and sustainability under the aegis of intergovernmental forum G20 on Thursday with a focus on land degradation and biodiversity loss, a sustainable blue economy and circular economy. India assumed the forum's presidency in December and will host global leaders and 200 meetings related to 32 sectors across the country this year. Key environmental issues are being discussed as part of G20 working groups.

Fossils a way of life for Narmada’s ‘Dinosaur Man’

Vishal Verma, 52, remembers the day he first held a dinosaur egg in his hands.
