Footage reveals Sonali Phogat's drink spiked at popular Goa club, 2 held: Cops

BJP leader and social media influencer Sonali Phogat's drink was spiked by two men, said the Goa Police on Friday, adding both the accused will be formally arrested soon
Goa inspector general of police (IGP) Omvir Singh Bishnoi said that on the basis of CCTV footage, it was seen that accused Sudhir Sangwan and his associate Sukhwinder Singh were partying with the Haryana BJP leader at a club in the state. “A video establishes that one of them forcefully made the victim consume a substance.”
Phogat was rushed to St Anthony Hospital at Anjuna in North Goa on August 23 morning, when she was declared dead. An autopsy report had revealed her body had "multiple blunt force injuries".
“When confronted, Sukhwinder and Sudhir confessed that they intentionally mixed an obnoxious chemical into a liquid and made the victim drink it,” Bishnoi further said at a press briefing.
The drugging incident happened at Curlies Restaurant at Anjuna in North Goa, according to the accused's confession, the IGP said.
The top police officer both further investigation was underway and experts from the forensic science laboratory have been called. “For further interrogation, accused will be sent with a team to various locations to get further evidence,” Bishnoi added.
Her last rites were on Friday at Hisar in Haryana where a large number of people turned up to pay their last respects.
Phogat's husband, too, had died under mysterious circumstances a few years ago.
