Union urban development secretary Rajiv Gauba will be the next home secretary of the country.
The appointments committee of the Union cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday cleared his appointment.
Gauba, a 1982-batch Jharkhand cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, will take over on August 30 when the current home secretary, Rajiv Mehrishi, superannuates after a fixed tenure of two years.
The order said till then Gauba will work as officer on special duty in the home ministry.
This will be second recent stint of Gauba in the home ministry. In his earlier stint as the additional secretary, Gauba looked after the Left Wing Extremism division of the ministry.Following that Gauba was appointed as the chief secretary in his parent cadre of Jharkhand.
Besides Gauba, the government cleared 16 other secretary-level appointments.
NK Sinha, a 1980-batch Bihar cadre IAS officer, will be the next secretary in the ministry of information and broadcasting. Ajay Mittal, a Himachal Pradesh cadre 1982 batch IAS officer and the current secretary in the ministry of information and broadcasting, will move to the department of personnel and training.
Durga Shanker Mishra, a 1984 batch lAS officer and presently an additional secretary in the ministry of urban development will be the next urban development secretary.
Aruna Sundararajan, who is working as the secretary in the ministry of electronics and information technology, will be the next secretary in the department of telecommunications.
Avinash K Srivastava, an lAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre and presently the secretary in the ministry of food processing industries will be the next secretary in the department of consumer affairs.
Yudhvir Singh Malik, a 1983 batch Haryana cadre lAS officer and the chairman of the National Highways Authority of India has been appointed as secretary in the ministry of road transport.
The cabinet committee also cleared the name of Subash C Garg, an lAS of Rajasthan cadre as the next secretary in the department of economic affairs. Garg was working as the Executive Director in the World Bank.
Ravi Kant, a 1984 batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre, will be next shipping secretary.
