  • Over 50. no runs. Bowler: Ravichandran Ashwin. Sri Lanka: 166/10(rr 3.32)
  • 49.3

OUT! Bowled. Ravichandran Ashwin to Lahiru Gamage. Carrom length ball, off stump on the front foot defending, missed. There it is, Ashwin's 300th Test wicket finishes things in style. Gamage has no clue which way the ball is turning, the carrom delivery beats the outside edge to clip off stump. That equals India's biggest victory in Tests and puts them 1-0 up in the series.

A second abject batting performance in the match from Sri Lanka as they are dismantled in less than 50 overs by a rampant India. That long stint in the field must have taken it's toll on the minds of the visiting batsmen, there were some pretty wretched shots from normally solid players. Only skipper Dinesh Chandimal offered any resistance, his aggressive 61 a beacon of hope for the tourists. The hosts were by far the better team right from the start of the match, with key contributions throughout their eleven. They will be full of confidence heading into the Third Test starting on Saturday 2nd.

  • 46.5

OUT! Caught. Umesh Yadav to Dinesh Chandimal. Reverse Swing-In length ball, down leg side on the front foot flick, well timed in the air under control to fine leg, by Ashwin. Helped into the hands of fine leg, Chandimal can't believe he's picked out the man. The reverse swing from Umesh drifts down the legside and Chandimal goes with it, intentionally taking the aerial route. He doesn't bother with trying to place it though and Ashwin barely has to move a muscle to gobble it up. India one wicket from a massive win.

APPEAL! Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Ravichandran Ashwin to Suranga Lakmal. Carrom length ball, down leg side on the front foot glancing, Play and Miss (Leg Side) to wicketkeeper for no runs, by Saha, appeal made for Caught. Ashwin thinks there was a little tickle on that down the legside but after a review there was clearly nothing.

  • 45.1

  • 43.4

SIX! Ravichandran Ashwin to Suranga Lakmal. Off break length ball, outside off stump down the track driving, well timed in the air under control over long off for 6 runs. Incredible shot, launched back over Ashwin's head for a mighty maximum. I think Lakmal enjoyed that, he has a big smile on his face.

  • 42.4

FOUR! Umesh Yadav to Dinesh Chandimal. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, inside edge past fine leg for 4 runs. A slice of fortune for Chandimal to get going this afternoon, that inside edge almost cannoning into the sticks.

  • Over 41. 9 runs. Bowler: Ishant Sharma. Sri Lanka: 145/8(rr 3.54)
  • 40.6

Ishant Sharma to Dinesh Chandimal. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, to cover for no runs, fielded by Yadav.

Time for lunch in Nagpur with India on the verge of a crushing victory. A rampant bowling attack took seven wickets in that morning session, helped out by some curious Sri Lankan batting. The hosts will finish things off this afternoon, with Ravichandran Ashwin seeking his 300th Test victim to become the fastest ever to that milestone.

  • 40.5

FOUR! Ishant Sharma to Dinesh Chandimal. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot Steer, well timed past deep backward point for 4 runs. Quality stroke to take the Sri Lankan captain to a second half century in the match. This knock might be in a losing cause but it will give him confidence in the next match.

That is 53 for Dinesh Chandimal off 63 balls.

  • 40.4

Ishant Sharma to Suranga Lakmal. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pushing, to cover for 1 run, fielded by Jadeja.

  • 40.3

FOUR! Ishant Sharma to Suranga Lakmal. Length ball, middle stump on the front foot working, leading edge in the air uncontrolled past deep cover for 4 runs. Lakmal continues to swing with reckless abandon.

  • 40.2

Ishant Sharma to Suranga Lakmal. Reverse Swing-Out length ball, off stump on the front foot working, leading edge back to bowler for no runs, dropped catch by Sharma. Put down in his follow-through, a wry smile from Ishant. It's never easy to take a return catch as a fast bowler but that was as easy as it gets.

Dropped Catch! Sharma to Lakmal. Reverse Swing-Out length ball, off stump on the front foot working, leading edge back to bowler for no runs, dropped catch by Sharma. Put down in his follow-through, a wry smile from Ishant. It's never easy to take a return catch as a fast bowler but that was as easy as it gets.

  • 40.1

Ishant Sharma to Suranga Lakmal. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pushing, thick edge to backward point for no runs, fielded by Yadav.

  • Key events
  • 176.1

That is 601 for India off 1058 balls.

  • 173.5

OUT! Bowled. Perera to Ashwin. Off break yorker, off stump on the front foot driving, missed. Barely any celebration from Sri Lanka as Dilruwan spears a yorker through Ashwin. They look like a team already defeated after this marathon stint in the field.

  • 169.5

OUT! Caught. Perera to Kohli. Off break length ball, outside off stump down the track driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to long on, by Thirimanne. Taken on the fence, Kohli knew as soon as he made contact that he was in trouble. Looking to take the bowler on and deposit him into the stand, the timing is all wrong on this so Kohli departs for a terrific 213. What a knock.

  • 167.5

That is 200 for Virat Kohli off 259 balls.

  • 164.4

APPEAL! Lakmal to Kohli. Reverse Swing-In length ball, outside off stump no foot movement working, hit pad to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Dickwella, appeal made for L.B.W. Loud appeal, that looked extremely close. Kohli trapped on the crease but the tourists have no reviews left.

  • 156.2

That is 500 for India off 939 balls.

  • 154.6

That is 50 for Rohit Sharma off 98 balls.

  • 139.2

That is 151 for Virat Kohli off 193 balls.

  • 129.4

OUT! Caught. Perera to Rahane. Off break back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot cutting, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to point, by Karunaratne. Sliced straight to point, Rahane misses out on a prime opportunity for runs. This sat up and was there to be cut, but Rahane leant back and tried to hit it hard, meaning he spooned it aerially. Karunaratne gobbled it up to give the tourists an early scalp this afternoon.

  • 126.5

That is 401 for India off 762 balls.

  • 124.5

OUT! Bowled. Shanaka to Pujara. Yorker, off stump on the front foot defending, missed. The crowd sits in shocked silence, finally the tourists get their third wicket. It's taken a fantastic delivery to get Pujara, no one can quite believe it. Shanaka fires in a yorker with a bit of extra effort and it sneaks under Pujara's bat to strike off stump.

  • 121.6

APPEAL! Perera to Kohli. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, by Dickwella, appeal made for Stumped Dilruwan gets one to skid past the edge and Dickwella has the bails off in a flash, Kohli has his back foot safely planted despite the appeal.

  • 118.5

That is 100 for Virat Kohli off 130 balls.

  • 96.2

That is 50 for Virat Kohli off 66 balls.

  • 95.1

That is 300 for India off 571 balls.

  • 86.2

That is 100 for Cheteshwar Pujara off 246 balls.

  • 79.1

OUT! Caught. Ashwin to Herath. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, outside edge to slips, by Rahane. That is the end of that, a classic offspinner's dismissal as Ashwin angles the ball in before ripping it away. Herath is drawn into a tentative prod and Rahane gobbles it up at slip. That completes a superb bowling display by the hosts. Chandimal and Karunaratne scored fighting half centuries for Sri Lanka but there was nothing of real substance in a tame batting display, leaving them with a below par total.

  • 78.6

OUT! Caught. Sharma to Lakmal. Seaming away length ball, off stump on the back foot defending, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Saha. Edged and gone, lovely bowling by Ishant. This just snakes away from the bat a touch, and that's enough for the ball to kiss the edge on the way through to the keeper. He really bent his back there to extract something from a placid surface.

  • 78.4

That is 202 for Sri Lanka off 473 balls.

  • 77.1

APPEAL! Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Herath to Kohli. Stock length ball, off stump on the front foot defending, inside edge to silly point for no runs, appeal made for L.B.W. Big appeal but the umpire isn't interested. Chandimal asks for some advice from the fielders before asking for a review. Kohli just managed to get some inside edge to save him, so the tourists have no more reviews.

  • 76.4

APPEAL! Jadeja to Lakmal. Stock length ball, to leg on the front foot working, hit pad to silly point for no runs, appeal made for L.B.W.

OUT! Caught. Herath to Vijay. Stock ball full toss, down leg side on the front foot sweeping, top edge in the air uncontrolled to short fine leg, by Perera. He's given it away, Sri Lanka get a breakthrough from nowhere. Vijay will be disappointed with this, the stage was set for a mammoth partnership to take India into tomorrow but he has to trudge off. A juicy full toss from Herath and the batsman's eyes lit up, only for him to spoon a top edge to short fine leg.

  • 71.3

OUT! L.B.W. NOT OUT changed by umpire to OUT after REFERRAL. Ashwin to Chandimal. Off break length ball, middle stump on the front foot reverse sweeping, hit pad. Another one bites the dust, Chandimal now has to trudge off. He was looking to take a few risks seen as there isn't much batting left in the shed but he was too reckless here. He switches his stance and looks to reverse-swipe Ashwin but the offspinner beats him in the flight. The umpire isn't too interested in the initial appeal but another superbly used review works in India's favour.

  • 71.1

That is 200 for India off 427 balls.

  • 70.4

OUT! L.B.W. Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Jadeja to Perera. Stock length ball, off stump on the back foot working, hit pad. Trapped on the back foot, that is absolutely stone dead. No chance a review will save Dilruwan this time but he tries one anyway. This is a classic Jadeja dismissal, spearing the ball in and catching the batsman playing back when he should be forward. The wily left-arm spinner has three wickets to his name now.

  • 68.2

APPEAL! OUT changed by umpire to NOT OUT after REFERRAL. Jadeja to Perera. Stock length ball, off stump on the back foot Late Cut, hit pad to gully for no runs, fielded by Rahane, appeal made for L.B.W. The finger has gone up but an instant review from the batsman. Late cutting Jadeja is always risky business but Dilruwan has just managed to get bat on it, saving him. Excellent review.

  • 67.4

Dropped Catch! Ashwin to Perera. Off break length ball, to leg on the front foot working, to short leg for no runs, dropped catch by Pujara. Was that a chance? It was a sharp one to short leg, the ball coming off the face of the bat and popping straight out of Pujara's grasp. Would've been a stunner.

  • 65.3

APPEAL! Herath to Pujara. Stock length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, inside edge back to bowler for no runs, fielded by Herath, appeal made for L.B.W. A incredibly optimistic appeal by the wicketkeeper Dickwella.

  • 65.2

OUT! Bowled. Ashwin to Shanaka. Arm length ball, to leg no foot movement defending, missed. What a jaffa, Ashwin is far too good for Shanaka on this occasion. He undercuts this delivery, causing it to go straight on past the outside edge and crash into the top of off stump, a lethal delivery from around the wicket.

  • 61.2

APPEAL! Ashwin to Chandimal. Off break back of a length, off stump on the front foot working, hit pad to point for no runs, fielded by Sharma, appeal made for L.B.W.

  • 60.6

OUT! Caught. Jadeja to Dickwella. Stock length ball, outside off stump down the track flick, leading edge in the air uncontrolled to mid off, by Sharma. Oh dear, this is a pretty tame end for such a talented batsman. Dickwella has his head in his hands as soon as he plays the stroke, he instantly realises the mistake he's made and is gutted with it. His attacking nature takes over and he loses his shape in this stroke, so a thick leading edge loops into the hands of mid off. A gift for India.

  • 60.5

That is 50 for Dinesh Chandimal off 97 balls.

  • 60.4

That is 100 for Murali Vijay off 187 balls.

  • 57.1

APPEAL! Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Shanaka to Vijay. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Dickwella, appeal made for Caught Finally a Sri Lankan bowler extracts a little help from the pitch, and it excites the captain so much that he wastes a review when there is clearly no edge.

  • 53.6

That is 50 for Cheteshwar Pujara off 145 balls.

  • 50.6

OUT! L.B.W. Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Sharma to Karunaratne. Seaming in length ball, to leg on the front foot driving, hit pad. Up goes the dreaded digit, Sri Lanka lose a big wicket just as things were starting to look comfortable. Ishant has plugged away on a nagging line and length, and now he gets his rewards. Karunaratne is beaten on the inside edge and trapped in front as the ball nips back, even a review won't save him.

  • 46.2

That is 50 for Dimuth Karunaratne off 132 balls.

  • 44.4

That is 100 for Sri Lanka off 269 balls.

  • 43.5

Dropped Catch! Gamage to Vijay. Half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed in the air uncontrolled to silly mid on for no runs, dropped catch by Perera. Smashed towards short mid on but Dilruwan can't cling on. This was a tough chance but the sort of things Sri Lanka need to gobble up if they want to get back into the match. Vijay hit it hard but the fielder got both hands to it.

  • 41.4

That is 101 for India off 250 balls.

  • 35.3

OUT! Caught. Ashwin to Herath. Off break length ball, to leg on the front foot defending, Gloved to slips, by Rahane. Rahane takes the simplest catch he will ever get as the ball loops up off Herath's glove. Test scalp number 299 for Ashwin, closing in on yet another milestone. It seems as though they will take the extra half an hour now in a bid to finish things off before the lunch break.

  • 35.1

OUT! L.B.W. Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Ashwin to Perera. Off break length ball, off stump on the front foot working, hit pad. Ashwin strikes again, his 50th Test wicket of 2017. Dilruwan was looking to turn this with the spin but is beaten on the inside edge, and the umpire has no hesitation in raising the finger. Sri Lanka decide to review, they have no choice really, but ball tracking says it would've clipped leg stump. I wonder if India can finish this off before lunch.

  • 33.3

OUT! Caught. Ashwin to Shanaka. Off break length ball, outside off stump down the track Slog, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket, by Rahul. You suspected it might not be long before this happened. Shanaka was always looking like he was in the middle for a good time, not a long time. He clearly doesn't trust his defence against quality spin bowling so was intent on all-out attack. That can only last so long in Test cricket, Ashwin tossing it up and getting dip to elicit the false stroke.

  • 33.1

That is 53 for Murali Vijay off 112 balls.

  • 32.6

That is 100 for Sri Lanka off 198 balls.

  • 31.1

APPEAL! Ashwin to Shanaka. Off break back of a length, off stump on the front foot sweeping, hit pad to gully for no runs, fielded by Rahane, appeal made for L.B.W.

  • 30.6

APPEAL! Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Ashwin to Karunaratne. Off break length ball, off stump on the front foot defending, hit pad for no runs, appeal made for L.B.W. Massive appeal, all of a sudden India look a threat with every delivery. Kohli fancies a review but ball tracking says it's only clipping.

  • 30.5

OUT! Caught. Sharma to Dickwella. Seaming away back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot defending, outside edge to slips, by Kohli. Another one bites the dust, Sri Lanka in absolute tatters now. This time you can't fault the batsman though, it is just a peach of a delivery from Ishant that would trouble most left-handers. He gets bounce and movement from around the stumps, Dickwella is squared up after being forced to play, and the edge flies to second slip. Kohli parries it up initially and then casually takes it one handed at the second attempt.

  • 30.5

APPEAL! Ashwin to Karunaratne. Off break length ball, off stump on the front foot defending, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, by Saha, appeal made for Stumped

  • 29.6

OUT! L.B.W. Verified by umpire after REFERRAL. Jadeja to Mathews. Stock length ball, middle stump on the front foot defending, hit pad. Huge appeal and the finger is raised, the visitors are in bother now. Jadeja just probes away until eventually he sneaks one through the defence, and Mathews is plumb LBW.

  • 25.6

APPEAL! Jadeja to Dickwella. Stock length ball, outside off stump on the front foot sweeping, hit pad to silly point for no runs, appeal made for L.B.W.

  • 25.6

APPEAL! Jadeja to Karunaratne. Stock length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, by Saha, appeal made for Stumped Karunaratne continues to live a charmed life in Nagpur, India let him off the hook again. Saha whips the bails off in a flash and is convinced he has his man, but the third umpire spots that Jadeja has overstepped. It would've been out otherwise, sloppy cricket. Jadeja only has himself to blame.

  • 25.3

APPEAL! Jadeja to Dickwella. Stock length ball, outside off stump on the front foot sweeping, hit pad to backward point for no runs, fielded by Sharma, appeal made for L.B.W.

  • 25.2

OUT! Caught. Jadeja to Mathews. Stock length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, in the air uncontrolled to mid off, by Sharma. Oh dear, what a disaster for Sri Lanka. This is terrible batting, another batsman giving their wicket away with a loose shot. Mathews is better than this but there was just no fight from him today. The tourists are in danger of being embarrassed in Nagpur.

  • 24.6

OUT! Bowled. Ashwin to Thirimanne. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot sweeping, missed. Timber, finally India reap the rewards of all the pressure they've built up. Thirimanne was really bogged down and looking for a release shot, but his attempted sweep only swished at thin air before the ball struck off stump. Great time to strike before lunch.

  • 20.4

OUT! Caught. Yadav to Thirimanne. Reverse Swing-Out half volley, wide outside off stump on the front foot driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to backward point, by Jadeja. Spooned to backward point, what a tame end that is for Thirimanne. Umesh fires in a fast, wide delivery inviting the drive and the left-hander can't resist. He throws his hands at the ball with reckless abandon and immediately regrets his choice as he looks up to see Jadeja accept the catch. That very much looked like the shot of a man who has spent two days in the field, lethargic and pretty awful.

  • 20.4

Dropped Catch! Ashwin to Karunaratne. Off break length ball, outside off stump down the track driving, in the air uncontrolled to long on for 2 runs, dropped catch by Pujara. Spilled at mid on, Karunaratne gets a life. The opener got tired of blocking out dot balls so tried to take on the spinner but dragged this heave to Pujara who couldn't cling on above his head. Not the simplest one but you expect them taken at this level.

  • 18.4

APPEAL! Ashwin to Karunaratne. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, to mid on for 1 run, direct hit by Pujara, appeal made for Run Out Karunaratne has to get his skates on to beat Pujara's direct hit by a couple of inches. That was pretty close.

  • 17.1

Dropped Catch! Herath to Vijay. Stock length ball, middle stump down the track working, inside edge to short leg for no runs, dropped catch by Samarawickrama, shy attempt by Samarawickrama. It's all happening here. The ball pops in and out of short leg's grasp, before an attempted flick onto the stumps is well wide. Vijay probably lucky to survive in the end.

  • 15.2

OUT! Caught. Jadeja to Karunaratne. Stock ball half volley, off stump on the front foot flick, to short leg, by Vijay. Snaffled at short leg, Jadeja strikes with his second ball of the day to remove the obdurate Karunaratne. The left-handed opener will feel pretty unlucky here, he got a good piece of the ball as he looked for some legside runs but clipped it straight into the midriff of the man under the lid. Vijay runs off in celebration, he's pretty happy with that grab and rightly so.

  • 4.5

OUT! Caught. Sharma to Samarawickrama. Seaming away length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, outside edge to slips, by Pujara. Edged and taken, India get an early scalp. This is the story of Samarawickrama's Test career to date, a brief hint of quality but nothing substantial from the young opener. He looks for a big booming drive but Ishant is able to take a healthy edge through to Pujara at first slip.

  • 3.5

OUT! Bowled. Gamage to Rahul. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pushing, inside edge. Dragged on, that will lift the tourists late in the day. KL Rahul loves to feel bat on ball, but he was pushing well away from his body here with the ball just nipping a little bit. A thick inside edge cannons into the sticks to give Sri Lanka an opening late in the day.

  • 1.2

APPEAL! Ashwin to Karunaratne. Off break length ball, down leg side on the front foot defending, hit pad to short leg for no runs, by Rahul, appeal made for Caught

APPEAL! Ashwin to Karunaratne. Off break length ball, off stump on the front foot defending, hit pad to short leg for no runs, appeal made for L.B.W.

OUT! Bowled. Sharma to Samarawickrama. Seaming in length ball, outside off stump no foot movement, shoulders arms. What a delivery, Ishant Sharma has produced a beauty. The first ball went away to beat the outside edge, this one nips back in to just clip the off bail. Perfect fast bowling to remove Samarawickrama for a duck and leave Sri Lanka reeling. This is what happens when you come out to bat with a tired brain and body from two days of toil.
