Alester Maregwede, a forerunner of Tatenda Taibu, is a middle-order batsman and wicketkeeper. He is among the first lot of students of CFX Academy in Zimbabwe, home to most of country's top players. He joined the school in 1999.

He has represented Zimbabwe A as vice-captain.

Maregwede made his ODI debut against West Indies in 2003-04. He has since been a regular after the departure of the 'rebel' cricketers.

He has played two Tests scoring 74 runs (highest being 28) with an average of 18.50. He has played nine one day internationals scoring 95 runs and a strike rate of 60.12.
