The Congress and Trinamool Congress have stuck to their demands that the March 14 killings in Nandigram must be discussed and the guilty punished. Left Front major CPI-M has opposed this, saying only a court could decide the matter.

State Forward Bloc secretary Ashok Ghosh, who has convened the meeting after being authorised by the Front to mediate with opposition parties, told PTI today that Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee will attend the meeting but he was not sure who will represent the CPI-M.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and the state CPI-M secretary will not attend the meeting, it was announced earlier.

Differences have surfaced in the Left Front over the Nandigram issue, with smaller partners virtually forcing the state government to announce the scrapping of a SEZ project in Nandigram which had sparked protests against the acquisition of land.

Ghosh finalised the date and venue of the all-party meet during parleys with the Trinamool chief.

Of the invitees, the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) has declined to attend the meet, alleging that issues of rape and murder in Nandigram had not been inquired into so far.

It pointed out that representatives of the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (Farm Land Protection Committee), including the Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind and BJP, which were in the forefront of the peotests against acquisition of land for industry, had not been invited.
