ON MAY 2 last year, a girl is brutally gang raped by spoilt brats for over five hours.
On May 2 this year, the brats move around freely but the victim stays in a protection home.
Her face is pale. Her eyes have no room for young dreams. She is lost. She has been robbed of her right to live. She is a living dead.
Ashiana rape case not only proves that justice delayed is justice denied but also that justice denied is crime committed.
It was late May 2 evening when the 13-year-old daughter of a labourer was returning to her hutment at Rajni Khand after attending the household jobs at a few of the houses in Ashiana colony. The girl was walking briskly when a Santro car screeched to a halt close to her.
Before the minor girl could have gauged the situation she was dragged into the car moving slowly. Shocked over the trap the girl screamed for help but there was nobody to respond to her cry. The girl was still unaware about the fact that she had been abducted and she had to go through a horrifying experience.
Four youths soon closed the windowpanes and the two youths sitting on the back seat pounced upon the girl.
The victim had no inkling where she was trapped. The duo forcibly undressed the girl and tortured her on the car zooming through various city localities.
The foursome not only took turns on the girl but also burnt her private parts with a cigarette lighter. The girl was writhing in pain but the spoilt brats did not let her go. The youths first took a halt at Nishatganj and invited two more friends into the car. Later, they went to a shop of one of the accused at Kapoorthala and got the car washed by two shop employees.
The group of youths did not let go the girl here also. They took her to a secluded plot in Aliganj and again took turns on her.
She underwent it for over five hours. Later, the boys dumped her near Daliganj bridge in the midnight. A police constable spotted the semi-unconscious girl with her clothes torn and helped her to the Ashiana police station. The girl was handed over to her parents but the matter came to light after two days only.
Initially, the pressure from State Women Commission forced the cops to send an innocent Feroz to jail even though the cops had identified the real culprits then.
The real culprits were later identified as don-turned SP leader Anna Shukla’s nephew Gauarv and his friends Bhartendu Mishra, Saurabh Jain, Aman Bakshi, Asif Siddiqui and Faizan. Following pressure from the then SSP Navniet Sekera all the accused besides Bakshi surrendered before the court. Bakshi was arrested by the police.
THE GIRL is raped for over five hours. Her vital parts are burnt with a cigarette lighter. Later she is taken to a secluded plot and again gang raped.
Doesn’t this prove the dangerous intent of the rapists? Doesn’t it prove that the rapists could be dangerous to the girl if let off on bail? Yes. Then why were they given the bail? Political pressures became obvious when former SSP Navniet Sekera was hurriedly shifted when he tried to scuttle all pressure from power that be and threw the accused behind bars. He procured court order for property attachment of two of the accused forcing them to surrender before the court.
Main accused Gaurav was sent to jail on July 21. But Sekera had to face the consequences for initiating action against Anna Shukla’s nephew Gaurav and his friends. He and his team involved in the action were shunted from Lucknow.
And, the Shuklas soon swung into action. They not only offered a hefty sum to the victim’s family to withdraw the case but also issued life threats.
The chargesheet in the case was filed on September 19. Gaurav, for which the Shuklas applied all of their influence, was released on December 4. One of the accused Faizan turned an approver later. He too has been receiving threats since then.
The chargesheet was submitted in September 2005. However, following intervention of the district judge the first hearing in the case would be held on May 6.
