The Centre has asked state governments to direct the district collectors not to ignore the local MPs while formulating and implementing projects like the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

Union rural development minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh in a letter to the Orissa chief minister has written, "Ministry of Rural Development has, from time to time, been advising the state governments that MPs should be invited to the foundation stone laying/inauguration ceremonies for the road works taken up in their constituencies under PMGSY."

The minister also said the "core network and district rural roads plan" are to be finalised by the district panchayat after giving full consideration to the suggestions of the MPs.
