Emphasising that lack of research and in-depth knowledge is coming in the way of the BJP reaching out to the masses, senior party leaders have asked the media cell to take help from professionals.
According to sources, poll-bound states such as Delhi have been especially asked to form a research team that can come up with relevant topics with detailed information on them to connect with the people.
Sources further said the Delhi BJP was also looking at recruiting professionals to help them hunt for suitable topics ahead of the Delhi elections.
“All the senior leaders said that the research team needs to be strengthened further as sometimes even on the most common topics workers don’t have any knowledge, which reflects poorly on the party. To begin with we have been asked to identify persons who have in-depth knowledge about various topics so that our content is better. And if the need arises we can even recruit new people,” said a senior BJP leader.
The Delhi BJP as well as other state representatives have been asked to adopt an aggressive approach rather than be defensive in the media as well as in interaction with the public. “For instance, it is the BJP who paved the way for the Delhi Metro but this has not been popularised much and the Delhi government has been taking credit for it. By using facts and figures, we should highlight this point,” said another senior leader.
Currently, there are five members in the Delhi BJP’s media cell who handle all the work. “When we go out in the field we should be armed with proper information pertaining to the relevant topic so that not only can we satisfy the people but the media too. This can only happen when we have a few people carrying out research work exclusively,” added the leader.
BJP had organised a one-day closed-door media workshop for its spokespersons, convenors and media cells at the Centre and in states on Saturday.
