COMMUNIST PARTY of India (Marxist) today organised protests and demonstrations across the State to highlight power crisis in the State, fake electricity bills being sent to consumers and fresh proposals for hike in power tariff. More than 10,000 party leaders and workers courted arrest at different places while blocking road traffic, claimed a party release today.
At Bhopal, CPM workers led by senior party leader Pramod Pradhan blocked traffic in front of the Central Library. Earlier, a rally was taken out from Yadgar-e-Shahjahani Park and a public meeting was held.
Addressing the gathering, Pradhan said that the State was in the grip of a severe power crisis. Neither power is available to farmers for irrigation nor students preparing for examination.
These are the two groups for whom the BJP leaders had shed ‘crocodile tears’ before the assembly election when a similar situation existed during Digvijay Singh’s rule, he said. He further said that power tariff in the State was already among highest in the country and another proposal was pending before the MP Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPERC) for hike in tariff.
Pradhan said the State Government has failed to meet all its major promises relating to power, water and roads and called upon the masses to take to street to express their anger over the ruling party’s ‘betrayal’.
