The DD’s cultural extravaganza would continue for two days at Doordarshan Training Institute, 24 Ashok Marg. Deputy director general, Doordarshan, SK Grover said that famous stars of yesteryears like Parikshit Sahni, famous television artiste Sarvadaman Banerjee, Dr Ramanand Sagar’s son Prem Sagar etc too would be present on the occasion.
The Monday function ‘Shyam Suhani’ would see Narula and Mahalaxmi regaling the audience from 6 pm onwards.
Agnihotri Bandhu would present devotional songs while Saadat Hussain and his troupe are expected to take the musical evening to a new high with their inimitable and highly popular qawwali. Ravi Saraswat’s jokes and satires would add the comic touch to the evening. The Kavi sammelan would take place on Tuesday evening at the same venue.
Grover said that this was the first time since he took charge of Lucknow DD that the Lucknow unit was hosting a function of this kind. “In our limited budget we have tried to provide the best to the people,” Grover said.
Answering queries from newspersons, Grover said that he would prevail upon the state government to take suitable action against those cable operators who were not beaming DD channels.
“It’s unfortunate. They cannot discriminate against DD. We would talk to the state government about it so that some policy in this regard could be formulated and those discriminating against DD be penalized,” he added.
Dhirendra Ojha, director (news), Lucknow DD, said that now DD has changed its style of functioning. “Our news is one of the best now. We air regional news in Hindi for 15 minutes besides Urdu news for 5 minutes from this center. Besides, we have also introduced the concept of breaking news and news tickers. Along with this we also have news headlines,” he said.
